and slapping in every problem area of my head right now.....ESPECIALLY THE NAPE AND CROWN. My hair always gets to this length (0.5-1 in shy of BSL/BSB) and acts a d@mn fool. Had a nice summer growth support....slept on a half-braid/half puff and for 1 hr =TANGLE & SPLIT END F*&^#@*& CITY.I feel like I'll never retain length because it so D@MN porous, dry, tangly, fine, and just....ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH. I never had these m0th3$f**&Y^)*^ problems when I was relaxed :wallbash:

END RANT!!!

I'm sorry about your frustrations. If its any consolation i think the pic in your siggie shows some beautiful hair. I have an area in thront (well the whole front) that doesnt behave and makes me look crazy when i wear a WNG.

END RANT!!!

:nono:

When I lay on or nap on a loose style, I know what to expect too but have found that many of the problems are easily taken care of by:

Before ripping through a slept-on head, spray enough water (or water/conditioner mix) on the hair and allowing it to soak in for a couple minutes. Then separate a small portion of hair (easier when it's thoroughly damp) and work on that small portion only.

Use your fingers to work out the worst of the tangles then follow through with a comb (or the pointy end of a rattail comb) until you find the stubborn tangle and use your fingers to work it loose.

Most of my tangles like to happen on the last 3-4 inches of hair.

Finish by dampening the hair again and going over the entire length with a comb or Denman-type brush, root to end then clip it up out of the way then separate the next small section, on and on until you're done.

Leave that dam@ relaxer box on the store shelf - ya don't need it sister girl!!

:rosebud: <---- for you kblc.

I use braid spray as my daily moisturizer, but its great for this problem too. Spritz liberally and gently detangle. This happens to me at least once a week.

ETA: You had me with creamy crack. Had NO IDEA what you meant... maybe I should take a nap!

You could also try ACV rinses to help with the porosity of your hair, and glycerin to help with moisture? Some people have a good time with cones and detangling, but remember to clarify if you try this as to not get buildup. HTH!
Natural hair can be a pain in your left butt cheek but you can get through this! Your hair is beautiful!

Thanks guys. I've calmed down...somewhat. I let some leave-in conditioner & shea butter stay in overnight, and that helped. But I know I'm probably going to need a good dusting after this fiasco. You see....my hair doesn't tangle at the ends but more so at the root. I can tell just from combing that I have some mid-shaft splits (which I'm more prone to getting than regular ole split ends). I just feel so ugghhh right now. It never fails once my hair gets around this length and I haven't been able to surpass it for the last 2 years now :( . I know my hair grows at a decent rate, but you'd never be able to tell due having to cut split ends & knots out.

I have the same problem with the rear crown area. It is dry, rough and very prone to tangles. As a result I have an inverted V-shape at the back of my head because that part of my hair is up to an inch shorter than the rest. I'm trying protective styles and lots of moisturizer to treat that spot. I've had no success at all, so can only commiserate.
