I Have the Thin Hair Blues

I just got through reading the Thin/Fine Haired ladies support thread and had to vent to everyone on the thread.

My Hubby has been subtly complaining about my protective styles (when are you going to wear your hair down again Are you ever going to get your hair done again? Your hair is so pretty when it's down...) So I decided to wear it out today.

I had noticed some growth during my weekly washes, so I was kinda excited to see my progress. Unfortunatley, I had fallen prey to the "thickness illusion." You know how it is thin/fine ladies...at 10 weeks post relaxer, the texture had me thinking that my hair had thickened a little. The truth came out once I maxi glided my hair.

I do admit that my hair is a lot shinier and healthier on the ends, but my edges and nape are still a mess. I am still nearly bald on the right side from a braid fiasco earlier this year, and my nape is really uneven and chewed up. I have a spot back there that is completely bald.

I am starting to wonder if I have to break down and stop bunning for a while. My problem is...every time I try to roller set on my own my hair looks HORRIBLE. Every time I find a stylist that I like, they don't stick around, and I'M JUST LAZY. I hate messing around with my hair.

Any suggestions?

I'm so sorry, InJesusName, for your blues. Try to hang in there. You know, I think if you could going to a stylist who does flex-rod sets or straw sets. These are also protective styles and make your hair look fuller and thicker. I used to get them when I got about 10 weeks post relaxer. That's generally the best time, not only to help out with a stretch, but also it's safer because your hair is stronger and not as delicate. I bet you'd look adorable and your husband will appreciate that you hair is down...and you'll appreciate that it's protected. Please do keep us posted! As your name states, in Jesus' name, I rebuke the devil and his lies!!! The blues will go away in His Holy name!! :yep::kiss::kiss::kiss:

I was experiencing some hair blues not too long ago. The truth of the matter is you're really left with two options. One is to become content with your hairs current state, or to get some encouragement, reasses your regimen, have some patience, and try again :) I totally understand where you're coming from. This is my third time having to "Start over" with my hair. Starting over usually consist of braiding and protective styling for a year; and then trying to care for and style my own hair again. So, I've been at it for three years now. My SO loves my hair down, too. As an alternative, though, I found a protective style that flattered me. I wear rollersets (tight curled) and after finger combing with a little EVOO, I have a hair full of pretty curls that I can jazz up with a little MAC and some cute hoops. I'm hair styled challenged and the only reason I ATTEMPTED to do my own hair was because my friend moved and I couldn't afford to go to a salon every two weeks. You have to PRACTICE and play around to see what's best for you. Also, after doing a little research and using the search tool on here, I found that Castor oil works wonders for thickening hair. You might consider doing a little research yourself and try it out. God bless in your hair endeavors!!!
