I wanted to do something different to my hair and I had only done 2 braidouts since I've learned about them here on LHCF! This time it came out so fabulous I felt comfortable wearing it down!

Thanks for all the raves, tips, and pictures you all have shared on Braid outs! I like it so much I almost feel like cancelling my touch-up appointment for next week!

Just wanted to share!

Hi Anky,

Here they go, well first let me say I WAS going to do a conditioner wash (haven't done one of those in months) anyway, I was too lazy to do that soooo I did the following.

1. In a spray bottle I mixed:
a. Motions Nourish Leave-in
b. Keracare Essential Oils
c. Distilled water

2. I sprayed my hair to get it damp and then made my first part. I re-sprayed to make each part and braid for a total of 7 braids/plaits.

3. I knew I wanted to wear the braid out with a head band in the morning so for the front part I re-sprayed, and I applied some Elasta QP glaze and brused lightly.

4. I tied a silk scarf into the shape of a head band and covered the front edges to lie them down. Before I went to bed I put another silk scarf on top to cover all the braids.

5. In the morning I rubbed Keracare High Sheen Glossifier in my hands and applied more as I unraveled each braid. I just separated each braid and finger styled it and smoothed on more glossifier (using the glossifier was mainly to keep away any potential frizzies, it's rainy where I am today).

I put a cloth headband on, right before my ears so the edges are out and smooth and the back is wavy/curly.

By the way, I had to use black rubber bands I couldn't find any perm rods when I went to Target, and I didn't feel like going anywhere else. The ends are still cool though.

I love using Motions Nourish Leave-In for my twist-outs!! It just seems to always make it come out bouncier than when I use anything else!!

My magic combination for twist-outs with soft, shiny waves is the Motions leave-in and my CareFree Curl Gold Activator. Bellisimo!!

!

Thanks for sharing your twistout magic combination.

Lindy do you re-braid yours the following night?

ITA i also use Motions Nourish now, but its definitely the technique that keeps braidouts/twistouts looking beautiful. HHG!!

Yep, unfortunately, it has to be re-done nightly, unless you decide to just wear it up the next day...

@Prettybrowneyes, I'm feeling you on the braidout. I've been doing this style for a week now and I love it. I have 6" of natural hair and I put about 10 cornrows in it every night, and take it out in the morning. It looks better each time I do it and it shows the length of my hair better than when I do a wash-n-go.

I took pictures, hopefully they will come out alright and I can post them.

Honeycomb, I don't know how to cornrow, I can do the 2 french braids on the sides and 1 french braid going down with my eyes closed both underhand style and overhand style but, for some reason I can't do cornrows.

Hairlove, you know I actually did a no no with the ends. As I was braiding and I got to the very end, I pulled it up against the braid and rubberbanded it securely . I know, I know, but, what else could I do, at least they weren't stick straight and I didn't lose much hair removing the rubberbands in the a.m.

Congratulations PrettyBrownEyes! I too love this style and I'm still learning from the ladies here how to perfect it so it looks great every time.

There is a post somewhere about soaking the ouchless rubber bands (the little ones you get at Sally's) in olive oil before using them. In this way, you don't lose hair - it will slide off. I've used these on my ponytail rollersets but I haven't tried these on my ends yet.

What I've done recently that has worked so far is to bring the side braids across the back, like wrapping the hair, and pinning the braids with Good Hair Day pins on each side.
