So today im at work, and this Hispanic and Asian guy decided to make a comment pertaining to black females hair. They said that they thought that we all wore fake hair, and if they seen us with really long hair that looks real, they'd just think its a really natural looking weave.

Its so sad to hear that that's what other races think of us.We are all just some bald headed weave wearing females that can't grow long hair!

I swear this just makes me want to take care of my hair even more to prove f**kers like them wrong!

We can thank Chris Rock and other ignorant folks for this stupidity. But what really takes the cake is how quick other races are to accept negativing of Black women/people. Can't tame wild troll. :ohwell:

I realized long ago on my hair journey that many (maybe most) people would assume my hair is fake (I got especially got this comment a lot when my hair was relaxed). But I had to realize that this in no way affected my hair goals or my personal enjoyment of my hair. And in the end that's all that really mattered to me.

I don't have to prove anything else. And some people will be non-believers no matter what evidence there is to the contrary. People often reject evidence that does not fall in with their predetermined conclusions.

Most people believe this because many AA women use weaves and extensions. What they don't know is that a lot of other races do this also. I chalk it up to lack of knowledge and ignore comments like that. Some won't even accept that AA women can grow long hair and never will believe it!:nono:

What is wild is that all the white girls in my office have clip-on hair and nobody will believe that it isn't theirs.

Well, it's been kinda the opposite with me. What I've found, is that quite a lot of non-black people seem to assume that my half-wigs and weaves are actually my real hair . I guess maybe they just don't know very much about Black hair, either way?

Sadly there are plenty of black people who think the same about there own people. When I say things like I can't wait for my hair to get long so I can do more with it somebody always gives me that yeah right look. If our own people don't believe that we can grow our hair to long lengths why should we expect other races to believe that we can??

There's this girl at my job that has mbl hair. She's fully black and she hates when people try to tell her that she must be mixed or try to weave check her. we've convince other people to believe that we can't have naturally long hair because many of us don't believe that we can have naturally long hair.

I think black people should stop being honest about what bothers them and start being more tight lipped about things....How would a guy know anything about weaves unless someone who wore them gave them or someone they know the inside scoop...to be honest, I can see a black woman who may not know anything about haircare making this same statement. I think it's high time we keep some things in the family like other races.

After a private viewing with other black women I was extremely happy that this "documentery" will never come to Swedish theaters!

i don't care. i had a man seemingly 'mistake' my twa for a weave that he said 'looked so nice'. :ohwell: i do think some folks know the difference between real and fake hair, they just do it to see if they can press your buttons. ♥

"I thought all hispanic people piled up in cars....."

"I thought all Asain people were Chinese"

:lachen: :lachen:......OP don't mind me.

Who friggin cares anymore. I can give two $+_&$ about what others think.

Seriously. Why is it all that deep anyway?? How many black people think inaccurate things like - all Asian hair is bone straight or that white people have tangle free hair? Not to mention most black people seem clueless to the fact that scads of white people wear hair extensions too. People don't know about each other unless/until they take the time to find out. And with regards to hair there are bigger things in life to worry about. Or if you're a black woman who has nothing else to worry about in life other than the fact that someone might think your hair is "fake" every now and again - well then you're pretty durn lucky. Write a book and clue the rest of us in how we too can have such a trouble free existence.

seriously did i offend you in some way? Your upset that i am angry over the statement that was made, yet still your coming off a bit un easy. If its not that serious, why do you seem so offended and took the time out to write a story? Obviously this post was a vent.. so you responding in my vent post to tell me that i don't have anything better to worry about in life is supposed to make you seem like you do? your just as bad then:drunk:

hahaha Well I did used to think that all Asians were smart til I came to college and met a BUNCH of dumb ones.....there are a bunch of stereotypes that people have that are not limited to just Black people. So I don't care. If people don't want to educate themselves then that's their bad. They can go ahead and think I'm rockin a weave while me and my man get to enjoy the lack of tracks.

don't get me going on asian and hispanic men. so many of them are short. like 4'11" short. go buy some stilts.

So you respond to ignorance with ignorance? :perplexed:ohwell:

It's sad, but even when you see a BW wearing her hair it's not long (APL or longer) without a weave. I don't think this is going to change; too many of us see our hair as something we have to deal with instead of take care of. If you compare all we do to our hair to the maintenance of a weave a lot of women are just not willing to put in the time.

The statement they made would not have bothered me. Because so many black women talk freely about their weaves, extensions, and wigs. Comedians constantly joke about it. Black women on tv discuss it i.e. several black women in reality shows and talk shows I have seen. So it's really no wonder that other races would get the impression that we all wear fake hair. And it's no wonder people believe we can't grow long hair. Because if you are wearing fake hair most people would believe it's because you don't have any hair of your own even though this may not be true it's a logical assumption that many people make.

It's not Chris Rock's fault at all. People were believing this long before CR's documentary. I blame all those women who try so hard to "keep it real" by openly discussing every thing about themselves. And I blame black people for being so ashamed of our own hair. We do everything in our power to hide it and change it.

The statements your co-workers made are no more ignorant than some of the same beliefs blacks hold about our own hair.

I wore weave a very long time ago. It was thick, and some guys didn't know the difference. That was until my weave addiction grew, and my weave got long, curly and completely messy and unrealistic.

I learned over time, that my own hair is 100x prettier than weave could ever be. That's because it's a product of time, hard work, and loving care.

I think too many black women weave these god awful looking weaves that make people believe that they and by extension black women can't grow their hair. It doesn't help that many BW have over processed hair that barely comes to their nape. Can you blame a couple of ignorant men that barely understand what mascara is, the mechanics of black hair?

To them, I would've said, it's real. See, no tracks. Then smile and walk on.

thats interesting...it always seemed like to me other races were clueless about hair other than their own...my iranian friend thought all black girl's weaves were their real hair (no matter how raggedy/jacked up it was)...but me & my friends explained to her what weave is and now she's a pro at spotting them lol (she even ran up to a random girl and asked her did she have a weave...the girl said yeah, but we told her not to do that anymore lol), and the other day she asked my friend why she could see her tracks LMAO...even in high school some white girls would ask how me or my friends hair grew so fast when we went from our hair to a weave, or a short weave to a long weave...but ppl like the guy in op's post are so ignorant b/c so many women of other races wear extensions and clip ins (jessica simpson even has her own line of $70+ SYNTHETIC extensions at ULTA...i know that silky blonde stuff wasnt marketed to black women) and no1 would say "all white women wear fake hair and if i see them with long hair its just a natural looking weave", when they probally wear extensions just as much or more than we do its just not put out there like that

Was goin to make this an ETA but.... I'm not even going to mention the many times I've been around when a woman points out to her man that another woman is wearing a weave
Now, I see men pointing out weaves or the lack thereof nowadays and I'm like what woman schooled you on weaves..."make me wanna holla throw up both my hands"-What's Goin On

What did he say that wasn't true? A lot, probably most, black women are wearing fake hair daily. People notice that.

Most wigs/weaves are easy to spot. It's usually too perfect in some way. Perfectly uniform curls all over that last all day. Too shiny, too black, or too thick.

IDK, maybe it's different with human hair wigs/weaves. Maybe those are the ones that I can't spot. But it's very easy to come to the conclusion that the majority of black women wear fake hair based on the number wearing the kind that are easy to spot.

Anyway, aren't most women here wearing fake hair on a regular basis as a protective style? People notice. No biggie.

:sekret: Oh my bad:look: I work and go to class with primarily white people and my hair is ever changing. They are always asking what did I do to my hair and I answer honestly. I think it's fun to keep them on their toes.:giggle: Besides, if you are SL one day and MBL the next, they know what's up so what's the point of lying and getting indignant about it? If it's that serious, just rock your natural hair.:yep:

Right! Who schooled them enough to be able to tell. I thought a woman wasn't supposed to reveal all the secrets. I guess they're do it out of jealousy.

I'm with the others, I don't care what they think anymore. I'm going to enjoy the hair that I've worked so hard to grow.
