before my DH drives me nuts! He does not like this TWA. I BC'd in May I plaited my hair and said he cant stand them "little plaits". He wants me to wear a wig around the house. He just asked me to put some bows in my head or something- I guess to make my hair look "pretty". I don't like my hair this short either, it ages me and makes me look like I just rolled up out of bed even if I pick it out.

I am so impatient. I used BT(4 months) and MN (2 weeks). I read somewhere that topical treatments don't do anything. Hair growth has to come from within and how you control breakage- moisturize and seal.

If you have pics and a regiman share it with me.

My new regiman is as follows:
Wash, oil rinse, condition, rinse, Giovanni Direct leave in, coconut oil seal.
I take a multivitamin, coconut oil supplements, iron, and fish oil.
My hair is really healthy.

It's going to take a while hun. Even though your hair will be growing, with shrinkage it will still look like a twa. Some days mines still does and I stopped relaxing a year and a half ago. :ohwell:

I know how you feel, but starting from a Twa is a Big Committment, I was in the same boat, I started with a Twa being Impatient and enjoyed it for awhile, but for me having a Twa for 7-9 months was just driving me crazy, I couldn't take the same style anymore, I tried flat twist, cornrows, twist etc. and it all shrinked down to nothing, But all you can have is patience, if you really want to be natural you will find a way, I am so impatient, but next time I go natural, I will just try my Best to Transition until I have enough hair to pull in a puff.

Have you tried wide headbands? Lipstick? New Earrings?

When you wear a Twa you have to have the Confidence and Attitude and know that you look good:yep: No matter what others say!

I agree. I never had a TWA but the only thing I can tell you to do is massage your scalp every night, eat well, and moisturize you hair daily and seal in the moisture. everything else in your regimen sounds fine.

Thanks for your words of encouragement ladies. At one time I did have the confidence, but now I have regrets. However, I love my hair texture..just want it to be Looonnnggg. :gorgeous:

Nothing is instant and everything worth having is worth working and waiting for. When I chopped off my relaxer I had less than an inch of hair that was back in 2000-2001.

I agree with the bolded that's why I kept my hair covered up for a while. I mean I could see it was growing when I stretched pieces of it but it was frustrating for it to still look the same length all the time.

I mean I never had a problem with the texture it was the length LOL!!! But I am sure it will come sooner than you know, maybe you wasn't as ready as you thought you were for that Twa? You will be fine, your is growing. Just keep doing what you do.

Sowwwy but you just have to be patient. How long ago did you bc? I think it usually takes about a year to "feel" like you have some length, for me the magic number was 14 months, since then I have felt pretty good, before that it was pretty stressful and I had many days that I wore a wig. I haven't worn a wig in months now though. Hang in there, you won't regret it, I promise :)

I don't have any specific advice. I am still growing my hair out.

The only thing I can suggest is wearing a headwrap tied in a bun.....that's if you don't mind covering your hair up every once in awhile.

I understand how you feel... It did not take my twa very long to grow out though. When you have a bit of length you may want to try comb coils. Low manipulation styles like twists and coils allow your hair to rest and you should be able to retain more growth.

Take a look at my album, I have some of them unlocked. They will show my grow out from the BC to hair past my shoulder in less than 2 years.

PM me for the password if you would like.

Lord I feel your pain. My hubby didn't like my TWA either. I wore wigs and then he couldn't stand it anymore and roe me to his sister's house in Philly to get my hair braided. I was glad I did..I couldn't keep my hands out of my hair. Having my hair braided gave him his long hair and me some peace and quiet...lmao

But to give my experience with growth products....
I gained 1/2 inch of new growth using Boundless Tresses while my hair was braided every night and chased it with some Tea Tree Oil to reduce the sulfur smell after the sweats all night. My hair came in softer and stronger. I know that it will take time to reach my goal (APL) but I am in for the long haul. Keep your head up!

I know how you feel. I have been wearing wigs every since I bc'ed in June an plan on wearing them until the end of the year. I get impatient sometimes but I can see that it is growing and I am just focusing on keeping it healthy in the meantime.

I BC'd at the end of 2005 because I had 2 hair textures, wasnt moisturizing, and my hair was falling out. A few moonths later, I found LHCF and have basically been hiding my hair but staying tru to my regimen of cowashing, DC'ing, massaging my scalp with growth oils, taking vitamins, dailiy moisturizing, and sealing my ends. I also wear a wig over my natural hair. The first year was hard, but now I'm really seeing progress.

Check out my fotki:

maybe you wasn't ready for the TWA as someone else said? Or maybe it's harder when you have a SO. When I did mine, I was alone and didn't care what anybody else thought, but I imagine it maybe harder when you have somebody that you try to look good for :ohwell: I guess.

I have BC twice and this last time I did it, I was pretty much bald and now I got what my 8 inches back. Not to mention that I like my hair texture as well.

So I don't know. Be patient and take your vitamins. Also, perhaps try some co-washes, again I don't know. Maybe try the twist so you can do some twist out styles.

It took me almost a year to get out of the TWA stage. What really helped me was cornrowing (hair added) and half wigs. I also participated in the HYH until April 1st challenge. I dropped out early but by April the TWA from January was a nice-sized fro. Hang in there, it takes time and it's frustrating.

Check out Poohbear's progress also. Her TWA grew out rather quickly and beautifully and I'm always surprised when I see her latest hair pics. :yep:

From what I've seen on this board, TWA's can show length sooner than later, since the average growth is 4 to 6 inches per year. Some of the creative ladies here wear styles that show off the length as it's growing.

I feel the key is loving your hair as it is now and having fun with it, and it will thrive.

how could I forget about poohbear. Her progress was amazing. I love her hair.

I BC-ed in Feb (2-3 inches) and my hair HAS grown out, but is still not a length I'm used to, I rocked a lacefront, braids, and now I'm in a full head. Leaving my hair out was giving me ideas especially when it wouldn't hold a style:ohwell: So now I'm weaving it up till Dec where I should at least have a decent length to rock:)

Don't do it for you hubby...do it for you.

But I've found the fastest way grow out hair is when you're not paying constant attention to it. I would try braids or a weave..from someone you trust as both could have adverse effects if not taken care of an put in properly.

I completely shaved my hair off 19 months ago. My avatar pic is what i have now.

My sad sad self would stand in the mirror and just look at my hair. It was as if i was hoping to SEE it grow. :ohwell:

During your journey you are just going to have to put it away - ie braids, with or without extensions, weaves, wigs or half wigs (i did braids and half wigs for a while).

A watched pot never boils.
You know your hair has grown when someone hasn't seen you for a while and they mention it.

At this stage make it your priority to keep it healthy and soft.

i didnt have a twa but it was a very short cut. if it not been a prem it would have been at twa.:yep:i did deep conditioner ever week and baggie every night i use bt every day when it got a little longer i had braids put in until it grew some some it it just take time looks like once i stop worrying about it it started to grow:yep:it still growing

What you're doing in your regimen sounds pretty good. Going natural is a mental and emotional process at times. It is even more difficult when our husbands or BFs don't like the look of natural hair in a TWA.

It's times like these when temporary styles a wig, weave or cornrows can help get you over the hump. If you can find a natural shop, maybe try some comb coils like others have suggested. Good luck!

It really takes a lot of time and patience. I like the statement in your signature:yep:!

I think you have received some some good advice for growing out your hair. But I would also like to ask that you please talk to your hsuband. Ask him to keep unsolicited comments to himself. You already know he doesn't like it. He doesn't have to tell you that everyday. It's not going to make your hair grow any faster or help your self esteem. My husband didn't like the TWA either. I think some men just don't like short hair. Permed or natural, it's gonna take some time to grow.

I BC'd around the same time as you did. Your hair will grow. It just takes time. You may have to hide it until you decide what you want to do with your hair.
