OH MY GOD!

I self-relaxed for the first time ever and it was horrible!

I thought I was ready, my sister had shown me how to do it plenty of times, and I read fifteen billion threads and articles on how to properly do it, so I got my stuff together today, and thought, "Okay...I can do this, I am a hair DIY-er!" So I based my scalp, coated the non-NG with oil and parted my hair for ease.

When I started doing it, it was horrible! I wore gloves and did it with the gloves because I think my sister took the brush thingy home. And it was horrible! The hair got tangled, I kept getting it on the already-relaxed strands everytime I parted the hair for a new section...it was just bad. SO bad that I ran (literally ran to the kitchen) and washed it out.

Now I have under-processed roots, over-processed ends and I am literally crying...because I think my hair is going to fall out. I am freaking out:drowning: because I just know my hair is going to fall out and I'm going to have to start all over again!

WAHH:cry:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On top of that, I was sooooo devastated that I went to IHOP and ate! I have been on a serious diet since October and all that work, for my hair and my body, down the drain...I am in a rut!

Oh no! I am sorry to hear that. I know you said you read articles and stuff but did you practice with conditioner before you tried it? I praticed with contioner and I really didn't know what I was getting my self into lol. From what i've hear separating the hair as much as possible before you apply the relax helps. Arcadian has a method where she separates sections of her hair and uses clips and when she applies so she knows no to go over the clip. this helps you apply the relaxer quicker.

When you were parting the hair to apply the relaxer were you trying to part perfectly? Did you use a comb to part? because parting with your fingers can helps save time and your parts dont have to be perfect expecially if you have a lot of new growth.

These are all things I read. I havent self relaxed yet.

I think your hair will be fine though because you did coat the non ng with oil. When you self relax there is always going to be some ovelapping you just have to minimize that by protecting the ends.

Ok take some deep breaths...it will be ok. Im sure you didnt do very much damage because there are people who have recovered from relaxing root to tip repeatedly as well as corrective relaxers. I think the damage would occur if you tried to do it again soon....you will probably need to stretch your relaxer even though the roots didnt get relaxed. I would wait at least a couple of months. Then next time either go to a professional or practice with conditioner until u feel confident enough to do it yourself. Your hair isnt going to fall out, especially if u ran to wash it out before u gave it time to fully process. Did you deep condition your hair afterwards? Next wash I would deep condition well and then the next wash do a protein treatment. Then just baby it and stretch it till its time to relax again.

Don't cry. It'll be ok. Leslie gave good info. Protein, Baggying (whole head), and stretching. Possibly oil rinsing if it works for you. It won't fall out. Hugs.

Thanks ya'll...I've done a DC and a protein treatment. Now I just have to super careful for the next few months. I can make it through.

Now! Find yourself a cheap *** DOMINICAN salon...watch the best one then next time let her relax your har. I know my limitations...I cannot self relax...some folk here can do, some of us can/will not. Don't fret, condition your hair and go forward.

ITA! Or have your sister on standby incase things don't go good, she can step in and take over.
