The Phytorelaxer has been getting some rave review lately. I know Sherry, sengschic, and a few others swear by the stuff. I also know that some of us like Caramel Honee and myself are considering trying it. Kaddy has been very determined to let us know how great it is. So girl, I will put you on the spot...Why would we want to jump on the bandwagon and switch from our $5.99 box perms and our $65 salon Affirm applications to the sacred phytorelaxer? What is so special about it? /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

sengs, I'm serious. I really want to know every little detail about the phytorelaxer before I try it. It is expensive, but I will pay if the result are superb.
I'd like to hear from you too Sengs, espacially b/c you have fine strands like me. Help your girl Kaddy out.

Great product. A+++!!!, November 20, 2004
Reviewer: S. Biggers (Maryland)

I looked for a while for a product that would straighten my hair completely without damaging it. I had been getting my hair relaxed for years. I liked my hair when I came from the hair dresser, but if I tried to do my hair myself, it would not look as good. I talked to my hair dresser and told her that I wanted hair that was totally straight without having to add heat to it. I told her that I wanted hair that would look as great when I did it as when I went to the beauty shop. I simply wanted straight hair that was easy to do. She told that if a relaxer got your my completely straight, it would damage the hair and make it lifeless. At that point, I decided to look for something else if relaxers couldn't do what I wanted. I grew my hair out without chemicals so that I could get "thermal reconditioning". I was going to get it, but when I reconsidered the fact that I would have to wait 3 months to get a touch up, I decided to look for other alternatives. I found the Phytorelaxer and I decided to try Index 2. My hair looks great. I do it myself. People are so surprised when I tell them that I do it myself. They tell me that I must have naturally straight hair. I tell them that I just use a great relaxer. People who cut my hair either believe that I truly have a great relaxer or they beleive that I have naturally straight and healthy hair. This is the best relaxer that I've seen and it's much less expensive than thermal reconditioning, even if you have a hair dresser apply it for you.

African-American Women, this relaxer is it!!, November 9, 2004
Reviewer: T. Hall (Wilmington, NC)

This is by far the best relaxer I have ever used. After 2 years of wearing braids, I didn't want to think about trying a relaxer on my newly grown virgin hair. A type 4a/4b, frustrated with not being able to wear my hair natural without having to use heat to keep it manageable, I did tons and tons of research and came across this product. I was desperate for something, and after reading the product information and rave reviews, I decided to give it a try. I nervously applied the relaxer (No. 2 strength) myself and I was shocked at how silky and healthy my hair was. I workout alot and sweat heavily, and the results are still the same! This product is incredibly true to it's claims, ladies. The only negative was not having quite enough relaxer from the 1 jar to relax my entire head; but that's not even noticeable! The product is also tough to work through when smoothing, so I'll probably have a professional apply the next relaxer to my new growth. I just did my daughter's hair, and my husband says our hair looks the healthiest he's ever seen it. Many thanks to the creators of this great product. It's the best by far!!!

Excellent Product Line - Superior Relaxer!, November 8, 2004
Reviewer: [email protected] (Dallas, TX)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have "Oprah" hair that is extremely porous, coarse and thick. I've used MANY MANY relaxers over the last 20 or so years, and this relaxer is, by far, the best! Both me and my stylist were shocked when she applied it and my hair started breaking down - almost instantly. The results were amazing - lots of shine, body and no spots where the hair was not completely relaxed. Up until last month, I had been getting relaxers every 4 weeks due to some breakage and my natural hair texture it was almost unbearable to wait any longer! I am happy to report that I am entering week 4 today, and will be able to last at least another 2 weeks until my retouch with no problem! I would recommend this relaxer for all of the 4b and above hair types out there - you will NOT be disappointed. I actually have been using Phytospecific styling products for over a year now - every since I read in Essence that Oprah uses the Moisturizing Styling Balm, so I also highly recommend that item as a daily moisturizer for the hair and the Revitalizing Treatment for use on a dry scalp.

Also please refer to: http://www.phytospecific.com/PhytoSpecific_TechnicalCare.html

I have this bookmarked because I'm making the switch..

The fact that people claim that Phytorelaxer breaks dowm their hair alomst instantly scares the hell out me /images/graemlins/crazy.gif. Won't that lead to overprocessing when you have you entire head to work through /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Hey I have been working like a slave and didn't see this.

OK, why is it better.

Well aside from what the other ladies posted on the hairboutique, it is truly a great product and the results are superb. I have used tons of different relaxers through my many years of being relaxed and this has surpassed them with my results by far and that is after one application. My hair felt much softer after using it compared to other relaxers (lye and no lye). I did not experience any irritation what-so-eva and I know I scratched my head like the dickens prior to application. I like the fact that the relaxer comes with a recontructor that works wonders on the hair and it is a great product. Now of course this is all my opinion about the product. I had been contemplating trying this product for years but never did and now that I have I wish I would have tried it much sooner. I have been told that I have fine strands too, I really don't know, but I like the fact that my hair (well the roots anyway since I don't the entire strand of hair) is straight but doesn't look thin (If you can understand what I am trying to say).

Also, since I self relax using a 60 relaxer is fine. I mean I was paying more than this when I was going to the salon for relaxers and I like the quality of this relaxer. So, I figure if I can afford to pay for it and get the quality results I like, then I will do it.

I hope this sheds a little light into why I am telling folk to get on the bandwagon. You can hop on and if you don't like it hop of again /images/graemlins/rofl.gif

Also, I did my research before trying this relaxer. I was on the website constantly and I called and asked additional questions. I liked the ingredients that are in the products and thought that the price is justified for the quality that I am receiving.

Y'all ladies don't play when it comes to the hair /images/graemlins/laugh.gif! Thanks Mona for the testimonials! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Okay Melodee, I'm not a great person to ask b/c I was natural before and this is the only relaxer I've used since making the switch. My previous experiences were in my early teens, so they are foggy. But I was so afraid to relax that I did lots of research and was happy w/what I learned and confident in the product.

First of all the pH was lower than average (I'm sticking by Index 1 being ~9.0, but even @ 11, that's better than 14!). Then I was reallly impressed by the fact that the base was natural (I'm an organic girl) and 'chemical free" (the inductor is a chemical of course), so I figured it had to be less harsh on the hair. I also wanted to avoid that no-lye curl lock, so the fact that this has a Guanidine Carbonate base was another plus and eliminated that worry (I've corrected a few times w/o incident). I also started using other Phyto products and found them to be of superior quality, so I trusted the relaxer.

Now, having used the relaxer I find that at no point does my hair feel weak. I recall from past relaxing that my hair felt really fragile after processing and for the next few weeks actually. It broke more when wet etc. For some reason after I rinse the relaxer my hair feels better, healthier even. It's buttery soft and still really strong, it's like I had a conditioning treatment instead of a relaxer. The other thing I really like is that my hair always feel hydrated and I have a lot of body in my hair. It never has that permed lifeless look or feel. My other big thing is burning, every perm I ever had made me burn quickly and not once have I had any such issue w/Phyto. That alone was major for me.

I use Index 1 b/c my strands are fine but I like the fact that my hair is voluminous, so I only texturize w/it. I've had it applied by a stylist twice and just touched-up/correct for the first time myself. I think if you like ultra straight relaxed hair this is not for you. But if you like hair that moves... this is it /images/graemlins/smile.gif . And that's not to be confused w/the fact that your hair isn't str8 or is underprocessed.

I never really paid attention to Ph levels of relaxers, but like SC, I liked the natural base. SC, put it best when she said the body and movement in the hair. That's what I was getting at with your hair being straight but not thin.

Again for me I like the quality of the products and I am willing to pay for quality that is effective. Kind of like why I won't wear payless shoes on a regular, I like my feet to look good and those shoes will kill them after a while. Same goes for my hair. Quality products in can only lead to quality hair being show out.

ETA: Now if you ask my husband he will just say that I'm bourgeoisie /images/graemlins/lachen70.gif Hey asked me the other day "Why do you have to buy relaxers and shampoos that you have to order through the mail?" I laughed then he said "Your bourgeoisie"

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah I don't know about that one. I thought since it was a chemical (actually I read it some place) that I didn't need to work it while I touched up. Mistake /images/graemlins/tongue.gif. It relaxed the kink a bit but its still kinda like my new growth, so it's very lightly texturized. I'll fix it when I re-touch again b/c I always fear I overlap just a little, so it gives me some room for error.

Anyhoo, as I mentioned before I had to correct b/c I wanted my curls to be a bit loosers. In doing this I had no problems and it didn't make my hair too straight too fast. So breaking down immediately... I can't cosign on. /images/graemlins/nono.gif I've been able to work it w/o overprocessing. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah, I can't agree with the breaking the hair down immediately either.

ITA. I'm not half stepping on any other hair products, so why start w/the relaxer? Plus the cost is increased b/c you get a full tube of that wonderful reconstructor and Phyto stuff is high already. But @ the new low price of $45 I think the cost is totally justified /images/graemlins/smile.gif .

I really want to try the index 1 because I have fine hair, but I think that you told me that I won't get a straight look. I am afraid of Index 2 because I think that DigitalRain told me that it made her hair almost "too straight" /images/graemlins/crazy.gif and she has thick hair.

I'm switching. I have been considering this for months now, but my next relaxer will be a Phyto...now lemme on the bandwagon /images/graemlins/grin.gif!

Kaddy, Mona, and Sengschick...I'm officially on the bandwagon. I've been contemplating this relaxer since Sherry raved about it months ago. I was soooo tempted, but I waited awhile in order to gather more info. I ordered last week and will use it for my next touch-up at the end of January /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Cleo..you too. Oh Lord, there goes my hair budget /images/graemlins/wallbash.gif

/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Okay Mona you are making my afternoon, b/c I'm definitely not in high spirits.

I had a stylist use Index 2 on me by mistake and ran it through my hair. Based on that experience I think it'll be fine on your hair it just got way straighter on one part than I desired, if you like fully relaxed hair you'd be game tight. If you want texturized you have to move faster and not work much. I use Index 2 b/c I need the extra time too /images/graemlins/wink.gif .
