Keeping Hair Straight?

Hey all...I have texturized hair, and now that it's summertime and humid, I have a real problem when I want to wear it straight. It'll last for a good 40 minutes after I leave the house...then it frizzes and plumps up to twice its size, lol. Does anyone have suggestions on what I can do to keep it straight longer? I would really appreciate some recs...As it stands now, the only two products I use in my hair is my indian hemp hair oil and elasta QP mango butter. No mineral oil or petrolatum products... Thanks bunches!

Hmm, for keeping hair straight, I wouldn't use Elasta QP Mango Butter b/c it is water-based. If you're trying to keep your hair from frizzing, water is what you want to avoid. I'd try using an oil-based product when straightening..or even just plain oil.

If it's humid, I am not sure there is much you can do...

The best remedy is to wear your hair in a protective style or cover it with a cool scarf or headwrap instead of engaging in an endless battle with nature...it's just my opinion.......

What do you do to straighten it? There are some John Frieda products you may want to try. It is a entire line for relaxed hair but I have a friend that use it when she press her hair. You wouldn't know that she didn't have a relaxer, plus it holds under humidity I would say she is a 4a type.

i havent found one thing yet that stands up to humidity totally , i just give up....but the best thing for pressed hair so far that i have found is Ultra sheen satin creme press and now they went and discontinued it right when i discovered it

this stuff held my hair at a club dancing all night in humid weather, with very little poof. i felt like i had just witnessed a true miracle

i thought texturizers helped to stop reversion??

i tried Frizz ease once (some kind of serum type product). i think thats the one from John Frieda and it felt awfull, awfull , awfull, and really filmy on my hair....i tossed it, i thought it was made for caucasion hair or somethin...it was terrible

I can't BELIEVE you're bringing up this whole satin press oil thing again!!! You know this is SUCH a sore spot for all of us that went to find it when you suggested it months ago!!!

Now you know it's discontinued, so don't be telling people about it just to get their hopes up! I went to like 9 BSS's looking for that stuff!!! I still look around every now and then to see if someone has an old bottle on the shelf!

Anyways, back on topic (LOL) I don't think there's much you can do for the humidity, b/c as someone mentioned, you're fighting mother nautre, which is hard to do b/c that ***** doesn't play fair and usually wins!

Why don't you just wear your hair texturized in the summer??? I'm sure it looks nice, right? It's just hard to battle humidity, and trust me, I know, b/c this Miami heat is NO JOKE!

Oh PLEASE tell me that they didn't discontinue Satin Creme Press!!

It was so wonderful it was nothing like it when I wanted to press my hair when i had a natural. It was wonderful for afro blows come to think of it.

No Donda, they didn't discontinue the one in the small jar that's yellow. They discontinued an Satin Creme Press oil that Irresistible used to use. The regular creme press is still available.

I may have stumbled upon something.

I am a transistioning 4a(?) with 3-4 inches of new growth. The past six months I have been playing scientist trying to find something to keep my new growth from reverting literally less than 24 hours after a flat iron it. I only flat iron once a week so I really want it to last longer than a day obviously

This past Sunday (after I air-dried my hair overnight)I tried something different. I made two passes over each section of hair with my ceramic flat iron . Before the first pass I applied Elasta QP Silk Thermal Design liquid (which I previously thought was only to be applied to wet hair). I instantly noticed the section was softer than when I used KMS Flat-Out the previous week. Before the second pass of the flat iron I applied a smidgen of the Surge Lotion Potion (?) oil to seal.

The result was that I am in the middle of the week and my new growth has not reverted- It has been pretty rainy and humid where I am so this is quite a feat for me. Not only that, my hair is really soft and has a nice sheen.

I will have to try this again next week to be sure It was the Elasta and oil that did the trick. The previous day I had washed my hair (CON shampoo) and deep-conditioned by sitting under the hood drier with Back to Basics Coconut Mango conditioner. I then applied Salerm 21as a leave-in followed by Revlon Fabusilk setting lotion for heat protection.

This question is also related to the original post...but I am asking the veterans!!

I have been able to keep most of my hair from reverting but how do you keep your front edges from reverting? I don't have humidity as an issue where I live (dry heat of the Southwest) but I tried a little gel one day and then a cream the next day and I just ended up with waves. I don't want waves! I want straight hair when I have straight hair. How do I avoid the edges going frizzy and then trying to fix them which doesn't work?

Thanks ladies, for all of your suggestions. Yep, fighting Mom Nature is a pain...I'm just tired of wearing my hair curly or in a bun allllllll the time. I'll let y'all know if I find anything that works....

Hey Hairlove,

I keep my hair straight on the edges by just applying a tiny amount of gel to smooth down frizzies. I use a really thick gel like Lets Jam extra hold with the orange top. It holds really well and doesn't cause my edges to revert like the more watery gels.

I used some of the Jam (green top) on my edges on Monday and it looked really good. I used to use this ALL the time, I forgot I even had some.

I just bought Elasta QP Silk hoping for something that would hold up under the humidity as well as protect my hair from heat. I hope it works for me.
