Greetings all!!! After doing research on LHCF and other websites I read about the moisturizing properties of lots of different natural oils. So true PJ that I am last week I went out and got them all!!! I bought eevo, avocado, jojoba, almond, coconut and castor oils (castor mostly on my ends)... added some unrefined shea butter and mixed them with my favorite Salerm wheat deep conditioner. (After having the sales girl ask me why I needed all this stuff I had "good" hair! GAG!!! Do people really still say that foolishness?!?!?) After applying it to my hair I covered with a plastic cap and left it over night. When I rinsed my hair the next morning it was silky soft :yep: UNTIL I washed with my Dr. Bonners concoction :wallbash: (which was only my 2nd time using). I did a quick dc and did my usual wash and go. I cant say that I really saw or felt any difference but my hair is REALLY dry.

I was planning on doing this twice a week for the rest of the summer...but now Im not so sure.

So the questions to you pros from a newbie like myself are....am I doing something wrong? Am I using too many oils? Is there a chance that I get a protein overload and how would I know if I did?

Thank you all in advance!!!!

I think it was the dr bronners. It needs to be really diluted. What was your mix?

Dr. Bronner's is no joke:) It's a good, natural, castille soap, but it's super concentrated. My hair tends towards dryness, so I only use that stuff to clean my bathroom, lol. It's too stripping for my hair. Have you tried diluting it more, adding oil to it, or no-pooing?

I learned the hard way that Dr. Bronner's is tooooo drying.

I agree that the problem lies with your shampoo. Also, what did you use after you DC'd? You need something to seal in the moisture; the overnight oil concoction and DC do not keep moisture in your hair, imo.

Thank you all for your responses! Prior to trying this I had been co-washing 2x week for 3 weeks (my first time EVER going that long without shampooing!). But after all those oils I thought I needed to really wash it out because it would be too oily and sticky.

Now that I think about it I used my protein conditioner and not my deep conditioner. Im new to all this stuff and get kinda confused! DUH! LOL

Also, after first coming onto the site I went out and bought coconut oil...then found out after reading more that it should have been unrefined or virgin. So I decided to mix that with my Dr. Bronners to not let it go to waste. About a week later something told me to look at the ingredients and the first was vaseline. :-X
Is it possible that the coconut oil had that effect on my hair?
