Has anybody else noticed an increase amount of shedding while menstruating? I always had a period (no pun intended) of the month when my hair would shed heavily, but did not no why and last month I noticed that my massive shedding was happening around that time and thought it was a coincidence but I am detangling my hair right now and noticed a lot of shed hair and it hit me that it is that time of the month.

I also noticed that for the 2-3 wks after it happens I get lots of hair growth also. I literally see growth difference on a weekly basis at least at the front of my hair, the week I pms and the week of the growth is somewhat stunted. I am aware of the different hormones and changes around this time, but I was wondering if this is experienced by others or if it is just me. On top of that I have a chronic illness but I am not on my meds at the moment. So it can't be that. Should I call my doctor?

I usually get the premenstrual symptoms before that time of the month decides to arrive: major hair shedding, bloating, pimples, craving for chocolate and pickles

Then the shedding will stop during the arrival. Zinc and iron deficiency could possibly be the culprit. We lose a lot of these 2 minerals during menstruation.

That makes sense, since I am somewhat anemic and was place on iron pills last year and my diet was pretty much on point. Maybe I need to start eating like that again and taking the pills too. I had not really put 2 and 2 together until last month though.
