My hair is a complete disaster!

okay I just self relaxed today. the back parts are still kinda underprocessed and my ends are frizzy! I dont get it. I relaxed it for 18 minutes like it said on the box. Ive been self relaxing since sept and I guess for months of not doing it right the area in the back is severely underprocessed.

Not only that it looks like my hair has broken off in the back ! because I guess because of the different textures and who knows what else.
Im so upset because my hair was growing and now its messed up. Back to square 1.

I guess its back to the hair salon. ugh. Im never self relaxing again. i thought I could do it but I guess not.

What should I do now?
My hair is hard to manage. I cant even flat iron and roller set it much anymore. Its hard to comb out sometimes.

Should I wait at least till may to get a relaxer and do a condition wash and just baby the back to death. I know it will grow right back but I have a major set back right now.

Im really mad

My regime is on my fotki if anyone wants to look at it. I rarely even used heat these past few months. *sigh*

corrective relaxers scare me.

why not just wear protective styles until your next relaxer? your hair will probably thrive if you baby it now.

I have an area in the back that is much less under processed than the rest and it broke, as well. Actually now that it has grown in, I see that it is much more fine than the rest of my hair so I can see how the underprocessing effected it in the worse way.

Like Dsylla says, protective styles help. I personally don't really wear protective styles that much anymore, but I just handle the area very carefully - not combing from the roots, not tying my scarf in that area, etc.

You could do a set of braids in a few weeks to get you over the hurdle, as well.

I also get afraid to do corrective relaxers. If anything I will try to hit those areas while I smooth during my next relaxers, but that is it.

You could also massage some oil in that broken area to sooth and boost it a bit. I just started doing a pre-shampoo massage of my weak area with a polysorbate 80, biotin, niacin oil product that I ordered from Vitamin World.

Make sure that area is super moisturized, too. Well all of yout hair should be, but if that area is anything like mine, It needs extra attention.

what do u think the hair stylist will say when she sees my hair lol. "whens the last time u had a relaxer?."

would she correct it? or would it not be straight until a couple of relaxers

Also do you think condition washing everyday will break it off more?

I think you should wait to relax again. I would never advise you to go over the recommended time in the kit, but a lot of people here leave their relaxers on 25-40 min w/o incident. If you've done it before without any problems with overprocessing, that could be a solution w/o using a harsher relaxer.

Also, are you mixing anything in with your relaxer, or adding any extra "protection" besides basing your scalp before relaxing?

I don't do buns. If anything I will just put my hair up with a clip and that's it.

If it were me, I would refrain from relaxing for as long as I could. And if you start getting breakage, don't assume it is because you need to relax. It is easy to blame it on that when you are suffering from underprocessing. You start blaming all your hair problems on that.

Try a protein treatment first before you assume that the breakage is because your hair needs to be relaxed. If you get breakage after that - up your moisture. Use the touchup as the last resort or just get it done in another 6-8 weeks (sorry I am not a stretcher ) after you have spent time conditioning and prepping your hair.

I only say this to prevent you from making the same mistake I made. I would get breakage and assume that it is a result of my underprocessed hair and then I would relax. Then, the breakage would continue or even get worse. It seemed as if, straight or underprocessed, I still would have gotten breakage. My problem was that I had been overmoisturizing in order to deal with the 2 textures. I subjected my hair to an early relaxer for nothing!

Oh, of course. I was thinking about others on the forum that use various oils added to the relaxer, then comment that they "overprotected" and came out underprocessed. That's not you, so that can't be the problem.

thx. Im going to continue deep conditioning and try to stay away from relaxers until may.

I don't particularly have any advice other than keeping the area moisturized and protecting it at night with a satin scarf or bonnet.

Also Vitale Sentitive Scalp Relaxer and Vitale Mo Body come with a protector lotion that you apply to previously relaxed hair that's WONDERFUL ... I'm really loving their relaxer.... the sensitive scalp. It's really easy to use and the protectant helps to protect your hair while you're learning to self relax as I am.

I would just wait about 3 days then do a wash and deep cond. Meanwhile, keep it moistured in a low maintenance style. Wait a week and then do a strong protein treatment (aphogee or emergencia) followed by another deep moisturizing cond. Do this for about a month then follow your normal regimen. I would definitely continue to deep cond at least once a week. I really would not try to stretch at this point since you are already underprocessed, but I would wait until about 5/6 wks then see a professional to apply a fresh relaxer. Once the hair is in a healthier state, then I begin stretching your relaxer. There are some good stylist out there that could apply your chemical services, but it's up to you to stay on top of things. That's the one thing that I do go to the salon for, and that is my relaxer service. I've been balded in the past from home relaxers, but NEVER again!

Girl, it has taken lots of breakage and cutting to learn to deal with my different textures. I am at 5 weeks post right now and I cannot tell you the last time I could get past this point without feeling stress. I actually think I can make it to 8 weeks this time.

But, I really don't want to have to deal with this, just like how you feel.

I like janeemat's advice. This is exactly what I am doing, actually. Also what chayil0427 says about tying hair down helps me BIGTIME!

I have a Profectiv kit and a PhytoRelaxer II kit that I want to use and unless I find a pro that can do them for me, I will self relax until I use those up before I just bite the bullet and find a pro to do it.
