To skip straight to the beginning of the relaxer, go to the second paragraph...the top is just gravy.
Ok, after serious drama with Hairboutique yesterday--and thanks so much to everyone who offered advice and support in that thread
--I called the 1.877.SPECIFIC number and found the retailer closest to me. It was at a salon, but called there first to confirm that they carried Index2. Once the owner told me they did, I was on the way. When I finally got there (I got lost about 928732 times), the owner was there with one client. I asked for the Index2, and he recognized I had just called. He asked where I got my hair done and rather tell him the Dominican salons, I just stuttered and stammered, Oh...heh...err...I do it myself. Then he launched into a spiel about how he is into healthy hair care, and all his clients have long hair like the girl who was under the dryer. Her hair was slightly past her shoulders
. I did like the salon, though, and the products I saw, but I didn't like how he prefaced his spiel with "If you're ever looking for a hairstyle...". I was wearing a bun
. Anyway, he charged me $64.20 + $1.50 for using my credit card (Que? Que?) and gave me three samples. I thanked him profusely, even though I am fairly sure Phyto encourages the retailers to do this. So I head off to the Dominican salon (a new one for me) to have my Phytorelaxer applied. After getting lost about 28736251884 more times, I stumble upon the spot with ease
.
I knew from the other reviews that I could split it in half, but I didn't really feel like the effort, and I knew they stylist wouldn't think it was enough, so I just let her mix the entire container. Anyone worried about how little appears to be in the container need not be. It will expand to fill about 4/5 of the jar. I applied the corn balm stuff around my edges, but she still applied something they had all around on top of that. I'd given her the instructions, but I guess she thought strand tests are for suckers and I didn't think it was really necessary, so she bypassed that part and I was cool with that. She applied the relaxer all over my roots. I was so caught up into the Phytoness that I forgot to tell her not to apply any in a little front section of my head where I never let anyone put relaxer, because it's so much breakage that it's thin, and it ALWAYS burn. From the time of application to the time it was completely rinsed out, the relaxer was in about 30-35 minutes. The front (or anywhere else) NEVER burned. I don't know what kind of sanctified relaxer this is, but it does not burn. My scalp usually feels like it's on fire after about 12 minutes, so I was in heaven. I still didn't want it on forever, though, so once I realized she would not wash it out until I said it was burning, I said "YES, it's burning". Yeah, I was a big lie to stylists girl yesterday.
She washed me with the neutralizing shampoo. No opinion here, because generally, my opinion of a neutralizing shampoo would be of how well it ceased the burning. There was none, so oh well to that. Then she washed my hair a few times and applied the milky reconstructor. After rinsing, she detangled my hair and set it. I was surprised that there were any tangles, but I remembered a few people mentioningit tangled their hair. Anyway, when the rollers came out, my hair was like BUTTA. The only thing is, not to be a horn-tooter, but my hair usually does feel really soft and silky post-relaxer, so I still wasn't sure if the Phyto was THE light. My SO groped my hair several times and proclaimed Phyto King of All Relaxers, but he said he doesn't think the difference is THAT dramatic. So, based on his opinion and mine, my conclusion is this: I have to wait. After a few days, when the ordinary silkiness wears down, I can really gauge how much I love Phyto. At this point, do I think it's better than Affirm? BY FAR. Better than my beloved Motions? YES, definitely. The best relaxer in town? YES. But, is it that much better than Motions that it was worth the treks across town and arguments and extra $65.70? Yeahh...not so much. Don't get me wrong...I love it, and I will use it again, ESPECIALLY because it's healthier for my hair and I didn't feel like someone poured liquid fire on my scalp, and those are things I can't put a price or limitation on effort on. So, I will order Phyto again, many times, but if during the year, I need a relaxer once or twice and don't have Phyto on hand, I won't be devastated if I get a Motions. Of course, if my hair still feels like this days, weeks, from now, this is all subject to change, and I will remain a non-straying devotee of Phytorelaxer

. LOL @ UmSumayyah. Thanks everyone! Oh, and I did put some pics in my other album to show how it came out.

. You go girl. I'm off to see the pics
...I haven't had a good customer service experience since 82, so that meant so much to me
