Usually magazines that are not specifically targeting our demographic usually gloss over hair tips when it comes to our hair. We usually get one tip for relaxed care If we're lucky and the example used is usually a weaved up celebrity. However, in the InStyle magazine special hair issue they feature THREE natural celebrities and included their regimens. Of course It is not any info we have not seen here but this is great. I am an avid reader and subscriber to the publication and this is the first I've seen with that much coverage on our hair and it's natural. If u get a chance check it out and send feedback via their website so we can get more of the recognition/ consideration we deserve. We spend the most money as consumers so acknowledgement like this should be a regular thing!

i've noticed the same thing! i see natural women everywhere in the media these days. admittedly, it makes me feel a little less unique  but i think it's a fabulous cultural shift! so many little girls are going to grow up knowing that they're beautiful--relaxer or no relaxer

It seems like natural hair is mainstream in the white media. When you look at magazines, tv shows, movies and commercials targeting Blacks, the women are all weaved up.

I feel the exact same way...a little less unique but glad people are embracing their natural texture. I also don't want people to confuse me with jumping on the bandwagon...I've been natural for 6 years, but just started taking care of my hair 11/2 ago..... Oh well lol it's a good thing.

I noticed it was mainstream the other day when yahoo.com had "Tips for how to go natural" as one of their headlines!

I'm seeing it more too. But I don't think I'd say its mainstream just yet. At least not here lol.

Yup, I definitely see everybody discussing it more, and trying to profit from it with all these "natural texture" hair product lines. I see motions has one now when I was in sally's the other day

I have noticed more women with natural hair in adverts here in the london for a while now .....or at least weaves that have more texture

most of the ladies in natural hair ads or mainstream are type 2/3-4a so i don't think natural hair is fully mainstream cause its rare i see a 4b or c. also many times the ladies in these ads can be wearing wigs or weaves that have a more textured look.

On tv i would say yes mostly talkshow ladies but in my lil town if you aint got weave yo must be dead;) even the homeless wear weave

^^^LOL

I definitely see way more naturals in my everyday life than I did even a few years ago - still not the majority but a noticeable minority. Weaves/wigs are very prominent too of course but I bet some people are natural underneath.

To me, the main thing that signifies natural hair is becoming maintstream is how much I hear black women talking about it - personal reasons why they may or may not want to go natural, etc. Even when I"m at the hair salon where everyone is either relaxed and/or weaved up it's not uncommon to hear someone talking about natural hair.

Recently I heard my mom say that "everyone doesn't have to have straight hair" and I was like . I was thinkin - "where were you at when I was natural?" :lachen:
