Hi everyone -- I need some advice on my underprocessed ends. My hair is currently growing out from a short "Halle-type" cut. Since I joined this board a couple months back I've gained so much knowledge and a way improved attitude about my hair and how to best handle it - Thanks to you ladies and guys

I am trying to grow it to the bun/ponytail length but I have 1-1.5 inches of underprocessing on the ends from using no-lye home relaxer kits. My new stylist who I see only for relaxers and color rinses, insists that I need to "trim" the ends. She told me that she would not be pulling the relaxer creme thru to the ends again since it just will not take. I knwo this will come up again at my next visit. However, I do not want these ends trimmed since:

1. The ends are not split/broken just frizzy when wet. When the hair has been wrapped, and dries with some serum, the ends look fine.

2. Because of the length, I bump my ends on weekdays with a warm curling iron and I figure that ,yes, I will trim the ends when I get closer to my first milestone length, but for now, I may as well keep the frizz to take the brunt of the iron heat anyways. If I cut them, I'll still have to subject the *new* ends to the iron for some time yet, and then those would have to be trimmed too!

3. Plus when I am ready to trim, I don't feel comfortable about letting her do it. She is one of those who thinks she knows it all about hair. I don't want to even cross the line where she gets the scissors in her hand. You know how the story goes at that point...

I feel that armed with what I have learnt on the board, I am making the right decision. Am I missing anything here?
ps. I have been experimenting heavily with techniques and products for "wash and go" curly styles - but only on the weekends. I need to see consistent results before I wet my head at 7am in the morning! But back to my question, please share. Thanks!

Maybe you could trim just a small amount at a time since you really don't want a trim. IMO, the best thing to do would be to trim them, and keep those ends well protected.

Anyone else?

Thanks for the advice, A. I myself have been dusting a little at a time, so that I can see and cut exactly what I want. And yes, I'm trying my best to keep the ends moisturized. Nightly wraps are now something I look forward to

How much hair have you grown and is it possible to put your hair in a ponytail. If you do not have any split ends then I recommend that you NOT trim it. If you have been dusting then you should not have a problem. I too have had short hair and only recently have grown enough to put in a bun. The only way I have been able to do that is to stay AWAY from hairdressers for months at a time. Maybe you can cornrow your hair and moisturize daily. This has helped me considerably. Grow out your hair some more until you are fully comfortable about getting a trim. I hope that you find a solution that works for you.
