I'm working on perfecting my wash and go for the spring and summer. I'm looking for tips and/or products to help weigh my hair down and not be dry, ashy, or cruchy.

I want it to look more like the picture below. (I can't use what I used to create this because it's henna and i would look crazy walking around with henna in my hair )

My current wash and go's don't lay down well and end up being a fuzzy fro by the end of the day. Any suggestions?

Henna is MUCH heavier than any styling product I have ever used on my hair. If you can find something to weigh your hair down like that...I'd like the memo please!

My hair does not hang unless I manipulate it to do so. I don't know what your texture is like but that may be the case. My wash n go's don't hang. I can do twist outs and braid outs with some type of butter to get some hang time.

a heavy conditioner with aloe as the base. if that is your hair in the picture it looks like its just gonna take some time because the weight that you would get from a product will evaporate it dries anyway. my hair started to get hang around APL

I only can get those kind of results with a braid out or twist out, and my stretched hair is 1 inch away from BSL :ohwell:

I do Terri's method of leaaving in non leave-in conditioner. It gives me "hang time" without the crunch.

Have you tried a heavy gel? It's the last thing I'd have tried since high school but I went back to LA Looks gel and it worked better than any expensive styling product I blew my money on over the years! The back of my hair tends to fly up no matter what I put in it, I hate it, it's so light weight and frizzy. I've tried oils, conditioner, expensive products and it would just kinda stick up. I finally gave in and tried La Looks Mega Mega gel which I never wanted to touch lol and I was happily surprised. It elongated and flattened it! Give a cheapie gel a try with a lot of water.

What conditioner are you using? I can weigh mine down when doing the Tightly Curly method, but I still get that crunch on the ends. The bulk of my hair feels frizzy, and the ends are crunchy, so if you picked up one curl, you would pick up a huge chunk of my hair cause it will all be stuck together from the frizz. (does that even make sense!?)

I use Pantene Nature's Infusion or something like that. It's not quite as thick as the others. Also, don't use as much if you re getting the crunch. If you have finer hair, I would use something like VO5

- washing and having a good DC, maybe an oil rinse as well.

- then leaving a non leave in conditioner that is thick, i.e.one with cetyl alcohol among the ingredients (it adds weight and clumping).

- then air drying in a bun and keeping the bun for a day.

- then braiding or twisting on dry air overnight, with some homemade flaxseed gel or a curl cream (or your favourite gel, although the ones that have humectants like glycerin or agave will give you shrinkage and defeat the purpose if the weather is not cooperative... i.e. my hair likes products with acrylates and no humectants such as Komaza Coconut pudding) sealed with a butter or a pomade (i.e. avocado butter, hairveda almond glaze which gives you a lot of control, shea butter if your hair likes it, even crisco if your hair doesn't like butters), mixed with a little sunflower oil (= ceramide oil; very smoothing and seals well, helps immensely with frizz). homemade flaxseed gel can be used in huge quantities and it's never too much, it doesn't flake, and you can add a little xanthan gum when it's still boiling for thickness (many recipes on youtube).

- then banding each braid or twist and going to sleep with a satin bonnet.

@Ms Lala & Napps...yea twist outs work for me but they take so much time. I'm trying to find something that I can do quickly.

@Shahla...I have ecostyler but that just leaves it really crunchy. I think my friend has some LA Looks I can try.

@nappystorm...I will try Terri's method and see what results I get.

You could try banding. I've had good results with that. Also maybe try doing your hair in larger twists/braids to save time (I'm the queen of lazy). I've done as little as 4, like I did here:

Even with you at waistlength?!
