Hi Ladies ! I have been lurking around since the summer. I have really enjoyed your posts and have learned more than I thought I could. I think it is so interesting that there are folks that are into hair as much as I have been. I have an inspiratiional hair file going back 15 (maybe 20) years. And yes I was down with Wanakee and have read Kathy's book to boot.
As for me and my hair. I have been relaxer free since Oct 2002. I had to have a major cut due to post partum shedding and my desire to color my highlighted hair brown and then jet black. Not a good move ! Since,I had a relaxer since the 4th grade, I decided to have a go at being relaxer free. I love it ! Though there are some days when I don't have a clue and my hair is a tangled mess.I love getting back to my roots .
My biggest challanges are dryness and shrinkage. I am also on a quest for that perfect Vanessa Williams meets Beyonce Blonde. Any thoughts ???? Anyways, it is great meeting you all !

welcome! i love your haircolor. and your oic from back in the day is too cute. it looks like something one could get from a printship.

I love the hair color! Your hair looks good

Where do you live? Who did your color? I am looking to give my blonde highlights another try this summer. Any advice or recommended color specialist?

Nice head of hair you got there Belladonna. Welcome to the forum! I love your avatar...a real diva in training.

Welcome! Your color is absolutely stunning. African Pride makes a highlighting kit which resembles Bey and Vanessa's hair color but the chemical leaves your ends rather dry.

Nice color Belladonna. I'm a former blondie, whose hair just can't take the color without getting damaged. Do you Conditioner Wash often? I found that was most helpful with my color treated hair. In the summer I'll be doing it three times a week.

Your hair looks great! What did you do to get it straighter? Welcome by the way!
Thanks Ichephren. On the occasion that I do wear my hair straight I go to a Dominican salon called Fantasy. It is on Broadway around 143rd or so in Manhattan. Luz, the owner is wicked with the blow dryer ! Last time, I bought Redken smooth down heat glide. She also used a leave in called Fast Food. I not sure of the brand. I did like the results

whoa thats blonde...it looks great...how long have you been natural?

welcome!!
Thanks Dangerouslyshy. Been relaxer free since 2003. I have to say that I wore twist with extensions and then a weave ( while pregnant) so I didn't really deal with my own hair until July 2004. I did keep up with the color during that time. Although not quite as dramatic.

Welcome and please share your regimen! Your hair is very pretty!
Isis, thanks for the warm welcome. I am still working on a regimen. I have learned alot about hair since joining this site. Since July I have been trying to experiment with so many products! What I am finding is thatless shampoo and more condtioners are key. I alternate between watered down creme of nature or Keracare detangling and condtioner washes like Noo-poo and more recently Suave Awapuhi . I have been using the suave as a leave in along with shea Moisture leave in. For deep conditioning : CPR,Moisturelock or Aphogee.I think I am definitely approaching Pjism

Tlmack, I am in NYC. The color is tricky. I used to get a full head of hightlights at Ellin Lavar's Salon. There is a lady named Linda Villalabros who does a fantastic job. At that time I was using a mild relaxer. The problem is that I didn't condition enough and tried to do it myself etc.. Since I stopped relaxing I went all out with the Blonde. I did it myself using Loreal Hi color in Vanilla Champaigne . The highlights and low lights were done at Curve. That was a little too dramatic. So I wentback to loreal and used every thing under to moon to tone it dowm (Sebastians, Clairols Natural Instincts and then Born Beautiful) I told Ya it is tricky

Welcome! i love the hair color! how exactly did you get it that color? permanent color?
Thanks Jaded-faerie
It is permanent color. See above for some of the specifics. I actually am interested in Redken colors. I want to go a little darker and a whole lot simplier.

Thanks Lorraine, I have to look into that kit. I like your highlights/color. Is that what you used? I was thinking about Loreal hi color hight lighter in ash blonde. That drying thing is all too real I had a few trims since the summer to try to deal

Thanks for making me feel at home guys ! Happy Hair growing!
