hello, ladies. few questions about texlaxing! i'm considering trying it instead of getting a regular touch up next time, but i need to know what i'm getting into beforehand!

here's what i understand so far:
1. you don't leave it on for as long as a touch-up/relaxer
2. it doesn't get the hair completely straight (i think?)

what i'd like to know:
1. ladies who've relaxed, which do you like better? why?
2. any pictures of texlaxed hair i can compare to relaxed hair?
3. do you think a texlax is better/healthier for hair than a relaxer?
4. would this switch to a texlaxed head count as some kind of transition? should i cut out the relaxed bits first?

a lot of questions, i know, but inquiring minds (mine!) want to know! :drunk:

I'm sure i have relaxed hair pictures some where but I'd have to scan them in. They're from way back in the day. :) It looks like this but not was thick. This is my texlax'd hair rollerset.

3. do you think a texlax is better/healthier for hair than a relaxer? there's less chance of overprocessing but other than that it's about the same IMO.

4. would this switch to a texlaxed head count as some kind of transition? should i cut out the relaxed bits first? Originally I grew out all of my relaxed hair (not sure what I was gonna do next). It took about 1.5 years, then I texlaxed but you could definitely transition. I've done that too.

people texlax to avoid overprocessing but can't this cause underprocessing? btw-what exactly is underprocessed hair?

I've been texlaxed for a while now, and still somewhat of a novice, so keep that in mind when reading my post :lachen:

here's what i understand so far:
1. you don't leave it on for as long as a touch-up/relaxer.
My hair is very coarse, and I like relatively straight hair, so I just use a milder relaxer than I would for bone straight hair. Texlaxing usually takes me ~20 mins for the top half and about 10 for the back (since it doesn't have to be as straight. I've read a lot of people say they do it for about 5 mins or use some type of oil or water to "weaken" the relaxer, but i never have

my hair looks fairly straight for the first week or so. however, when it's washed, you can see the texture and it has a lot of shrinkage. I don't do wash n' go's though. I started to texlax to achieve the thickness that I had when I was younger. I was actually texlaxed when I was younger (unbeknownst to me...we just always thought we did a poor job relaxing b/c I was underprocessed)

texlaxing. My hair is thicker, softer, and rarely breaks.

2. any pictures of texlaxed hair i can compare to relaxed hair?
Unfortunately, none of my pictures are that good for comparison b/c I always flat iron or curl my hair for pics. I may have some wet texlaxed shots, but again, I doubt they're good if you're looking for the difference in texture. I'll try to come back and post something for you though.

3. do you think a texlax is better/healthier for hair than a relaxer?
In my case, texlaxing has been a lot healther. I don't know if this is a general consensus, or not.
4. would this switch to a texlaxed head count as some kind of transition? should i cut out the relaxed bits first?
i still have my relaxed hair. By next April (my 2 yr anniversary) I think I should be able to cut all of my relaxed hair and be at BSL.

1. ladies who've relaxed, which do you like better? why?
I have been texlaxed for 2-1/2 years, after being relaxed for many years. I like it better than relaxed because my hair is thicker/fuller.

2. any pictures of texlaxed hair i can compare to relaxed hair?
Sorry, I don't have any pics of my relaxed hair. For my texlaxed hair, I have pics in my avatar (dry) and siggy (wet)...and more in my fotki.

3. do you think a texlax is better/healthier for hair than a relaxer?
My hair is certainly healthier/stronger that it was when I relaxed fully.
4. would this switch to a texlaxed head count as some kind of transition? should i cut out the relaxed bits first?
I counted it as a transition because I went from a very thin, damaged relaxed to a much thicker, healthier texlaxed. I did do gradual trimming along the way and still want to trim more off. :look:

Disclaimer: I don't think these pics are good, but I remember wanting to see ANYTHING as a newbie:lachen:, so you may find them helpful. I don't have any pics of my hair prior to texlaxing.

1: this part of my hair is a lot shorter than the middle/top, but texlaxing is allowing it to catch up. Anyway, in this pic you can see how thick the texlaxing part (from a little past the shoulder up) is compared to the relax.

2. pic of my entire head (flat irone). as you can see, the relaxed ends are thinner.

3. for me, the one downside to texlaxing is the problem of tangling when I'm stretching. The pic appears worse than it was. It doesn't cause breakage, but it is a big hassle and makes my hair look really big  in my daily bun.

4. close up of texture with conditioner

5. my avatar is a recent pic of my hair flat-ironed

ETA: i've been texlaxed for 10-12 months, so ~6 inches of NG. My Office Paint wasn't working so I couldn't draw any lines for you. sorry
