Hi all!

Wow, am I glad I found this website! I hope this is the right place to post this. Anyway, I have no experience in 'taking care' of my hair. I have literally burned out most of my hair from constantly applying heat to is, like every day with the curling iron. I don't know how else to style it. Ok, so now that I am here on my quest to healthy, longer hair, I need a good starting point. I have started a journal, not the on-line kind, where I am writing down suggestions, information and advice. I have a section for products and regime's. This site has been a God-send! I have a few questions.
Where do I start, I was thinking about going to a salon, getting my ends clipped, relaxer, deep, deep conditioning and a little-no contact style or a sew-in weave to give my hair a break. I recently had braids which broke my edges down to the root, literally, my right side is looking like 2 hot messes! The rest of my hair just looks like 1 hot mess... :lachen: lol. Ok, where do i go from there? I am hair challenged, did I mention that? Styling without curling irons is not my strong point. Plus my hair is extremely hard to curl, I have 4b type hair, that is resistant to a lot of things, plus it is thin..any and all suggestions are welcome. Just want to say thanks for having this site, you all don't know how much this is helping me, and how much I need it. I waited until I was 30 to start taking care of my hair, should have started sooner. Thanks again!

Let me be the first to welcome you! I don't know how your hair looks but if you feel your ends are dry and need trimming I say go for it. Take a look at your products and narrow it down to what works for you. It's easy to try so many things based on recommendations that you lose sight of a good regimen that works for you. A journal is a great place to start. I track my progress by taking photos and I can tell you that while I have a ways to go, I have come a long way. Do a search on protective styles to find hairstyles that look nice but don't require heat (instant weaves, phony ponys, wash and go, etc.). If you have any questions feel free to PM me. ;)

Welcome to the board! I am sure you can find the answers to your questions here, there are many knowledgable people here! :)

Welcome to the forums and just do a search around the boards. I must warn yo not to spend so much money on hair care when you are first here. Just do plenty of research and learn more about your hair.

I KNOW you will get great advice here. Although I was pretty knowledgeable about styling my hair before I found this place, I have still learned so much more about keeping my hair healthy. Again I say Welcome and best wishes on your new journey

Welcome to the board,

I was also over 30 when I found this board and started learning how to care for my hair. It still isn't where I want it to be, but I'm happy with it most of the time  .

As someone else said don't go out and buy everything that is posted. Find a good shampoo, moisturing conditioner, protein conditioner and leave - in. Aslo proctective hairstyles are great for some people. I normally wear my hair rollerset. That is my basic style.
