What's up everyone, I'm your newbie fiveleven (literally). I am soooo happy to be a new member. You can't see me but I am doing cartwheels. /images/graemlins/bouncy.gif I have been lurking for sometime just to gather a little information from all of your amazing personal experiences. I just decided to get serious about my hair two weeks ago. I am so in love with these website actually it is more like an addiction.I found nappturality.com at first but this is the place for me. /images/graemlins/ooo.gif

But here's a little history:(kinda long but I love to share especially with my new friends)
At age five, I got my first perm at a hair salon and my hair feel out from about 9- 10 inches to 1 inch. My mom cried and then vowed to never let anyone get in my hair again. In high school my hair was fairly healthy but since I was a tomboy hair was not a priority. I would often blow dry my hair and flat iron my hair every Saturday and wrap and bump during the week. People would always play in my hair to see if I had tracks and say how pretty it was which seems funny to me since it wasn't long. My hair was an all around even just a below shoulder length until I begged my mom to give me a motion's perm on school night. It was on my hair no time when my mom rinsed it out because it was burning. Needlass to say the next day I skip school to get a short haircut a little bit longer than the famed halle berry cut(shaved and all). It's sad to say that I wasn't mad because I wanted mad because I wanted my hair cut short but my parents refused. (but not that short). During my first 2 years of college I wore cornrows on and off until I got some TOO tight that took my hair out. I then decided to keep my hair in a fairly short layered bob(about ear length) in early 2002 and cont. the cut until late 2002. By March of 2003 my hair was back like it was in high school when in April I opted for a deep reddish tone but when the beautician finished I had light reddish- medium blonde color all over. About I month later a friend informed my that my hair was literally gone so I decided to get braids and grow out my hair in May because I didn't know what else to do. In November 2003, I cut off all remnants of color. I wore micros until this summer but I never moisturised my braids but oiled occasionally. I am very ashamed but I must admit I didn't wash my hair in braids and rarely cleaned my scalp with astringent. So I probably washed every 2 1/2 - 3 months. When I took my braids out in May I had to cut off about 3 inches due to dry, split ends. Since I didn't know how to deal with natural hair, I applied Paul Mitchell The Detangler and Infusium after washing my hair and had a tangled mess.I blow dried my hair on high once a week for 2 months. At the end of the summer I got my hair pressed and my splits ends clipped and got micros for school, which I took out 2 weeks ago.My hair is currently 7- 7 1/2 inches long. This November I will have my 1 year natural anniversary.

Now I ready to take care of my natural 4a/4b hair by con washing twice a week, shampooing and deep coditioning once a week ,and clarifying once a month. I plan on using the baggie method and alternating with bradis with the crown and glory technique for 2 years. My ultimate goal is 1 inch below brastrap.

What do you think of the regime? I am open for suggestions
Thanks in advance to everyone who takes the time to read/post to this message. Also, thanks to Ms. Adrien for advice some time ago, she told me to find what works for me which I feel I have.

Anywho what I said was welcome to LHCF fiveeleven (I assume that's your height /images/graemlins/shocked.gif /images/graemlins/laugh.gif ). And that your hair is nice and I'm sure you'll be at bra strap before you know it and thank goodness it's not hard to grow 4a/b hair to such lengths (like we used to think) /images/graemlins/wave.gif

Welcome fiveleven!!! Your hair is awesome and very pretty! I'm in the same boat as you with regards to your hair goals. Once you and I remain members of this website, we'll reach our hair goals in no time! Great album, and keep adding pictures.. /images/graemlins/wave.gif

Welcome! /images/graemlins/weird.gif I just want to say that you and your natural hair are very pretty. I love the beginning of your twists. As for your regimen, at least you have one together, I can't say the same for myself. If you continue to learn all you can here and take care of your hair you'll be at your bra-strap goal in no time. Happy growing!!!

Welcome to the board!! /images/graemlins/wave.gif Thanks for sharing your story & pics! Very nice! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Welcome! Your hair looks very healthy now, and I'd say you are off to a great start because you DESIRE to take better care of your tresses. I think half the battle is knowing what was bad/wrong that you were doing in the past and trying to find healthier ways to handle your hair.

Anyway, all I can add regarding your regime is make sure you have a really good wide-tooth comb handy for detangling.

Keep the pics coming /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Wow, welcome to the board! Your hair looks great and by reading your album notes, I can tell you already have a good regimin down. BTW, those "practicing twists" are nice, I can't wait to see some completely done. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Fivelevn, you have a gorgeous head of hair. I know that you are just really getting serious about taking care of your hair, but to look at it, I would never know that you had some of the same problems that I had.

In fact, I used to have a reference to my halle berry pixie in my signature. I realized that it no longer applies.

Keep up the good work!
