I have been having lots of issue with my hair tangling more than usual for the past 6 months. The other day I went shopping at the salvage store and saw that they had Nexxus Humectress for $3 so I got only one bottle since I still had some at home.

When I got home I noticed that the bottle I had already had a black cap and the one I got at the salvage store had a gray cap. I thought it must be new packaging and KIM. A couple days later I was cleaning the bathroom and was putting my hair stuff away and grabbed the 2 humectress bottles.

I decided to investigate the "new" packaging and compared the changes but when I turned the bottle around I was like !!!!! The formulas were completely different! And I mean COMPLETELY!

So, now I am attributing my tangling to the new humectress and needless to say I am going back to the salvage store to load up on all the old stuff.

Has anyone else noticed a difference between the new and old drugstore NExxus Humectress??

I'll be back with a comparison of the list of ingredients.

This is the new formula:
Water (Aqua, Eau), Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Bis(C13-15 Alkoxy) PG-Amodimethicone, Stearalkonium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Aminopropyl Dimethicone, Cetrimonium Chloride, Isostearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, DMDM Hydantoin, Dimethiconol, C14-15 Alcohols, Limonene, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Citronellol, Coumarin, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Sodium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Panthenol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Propylene Glycol, Red 4 (CI 14700), Red 33 (CI 17200), Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate, Blue 1 (CI 42090), Polysorbate 60, Stearic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Myristic Acid, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Honey Extract (Mel, Extrait de Miel), Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Flour Lipids, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide, Ceramide 3, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Tocopheryl Acetate

ETA: I'll have to type the old formula in when I get home, I can't find it on the net but I have found lots of people upset about the change.

Here are the ingredients for the old formula: Note the differences and forgive my spelling

Yeah girl....I stopped using Humectress months ago since they changed the formulation...I could really tell the difference as well.

That's great if you can get the old version - I love both the old version of Humectress and Keraphix....

I'm going this afternoon. The new stuff is really getting a lot of bad publicity on the net. There were no cones in the old formula now its loaded with it. Probably why my hair has been tangling so badly.

can you include links to some of the other reviews on the Internet @ the formula change?

I didn't really like the new formula at first. I used the old one all the time. I would just wash my hair and go. No drying needed. I decided to use that what I had left from the new bottle and it's working great with my rollersets. I don't think I can use it like the old one where I put in on wet hair and just go. I still miss the old formula (the softness and the smell).

Thank you OP for the heads up, I'll be stocking up for the next couple of years, nexxus humectress is probably my only true staple.

I found this website http://discontinuednomore.com

You can tell them what you love thats discontinued and they try to get the manufacturer to start producing again.

What's funny is that the GVP brand has ingredients from the 1995 formula, probably to avoid copyright problems. So this might be a good alternative to the "old professional" formula. All of the GVP products tell you a year for the formulation thats used.

I nearly forgot about the Nexxus Phyto Organics range, they have a humectin conditioner which is an organic version of the signature line's humectress. I've read some great reviews on it in other threads mainly saying that they are very similar however I am yet to try it myself

aww man thats whyy!
i bought a biig bottle of this fron target and i was wondering why it wasnt working on my hair like it was working on everyone elses. :( no wonder..
that sucks i have sooo much of it too,
guess ill jus use it for co washes and try to finish it ..

man its so hard finding good products when they keep changing it up. :(

Where is this GVP?

I bought a gallon years ago when I heard they were changing the formula. I had a couple big bottles and adding my gallon to that, I still have quite a bit left. It's my favorite DC, so I'm sad to hear that it's being changed up. :(

I just brought humectress and I liked it, looking at the ingredients, apparentely it was the new one, so I can't compare it.

What is this new Nexxus "Phyto Humectin" or whatnot?

Its the one they replaced the original salon formula with. I tried it but meh, I liked the old one better. Then they started selling the old one outside salons and I was in hog heaven....no more drive to JCP to get my beloved humectress......now this.:wallbash::wallbash:

I have to get to Sally's and buy the generic version. This totally sucks. Especially since I bought two gallon-sized bottles of the humectress and therappe. :ohwell:

Good idea.

After I use up all I got from the salvage store, I'll try the Sally's version. I am so mad at these folks at Nexxus right now! Thanks for posting the GVP formula and telling me where I can get it!

I've noticed a slight difference as far as how my hair reacted to the new formula but not enough for me to stop using it. But I think this is the 2nd time they've changed it. I also noticed the old old formula - when you could only get it in a BSS not the grocery store, CVS, etc. used to say that you could use it as a rinse out conditioner, deep conditioner and leave in conditioner on the back of the bottle. Now it doesn't say all that so IDK if it's as moisturizing as it was before.

I noticed that too. I had been looking for that one statement a long time and its been removed. I really hate to part with one of my old faves but there is definate change with my hair and the new formula.

I still use it as a leave in under gel with no problems. I use it to cowash my weave sometimes too. But I don't really use it as a DC anymore. I've found some other things that I like better for my natural hair. I really like DPR 11. I used it to DC when I relaxed for the most part. Sometimes I would mix it with an ORS Pak. It seems like the newer formulas aren't as thick as the original for some reason. But it works good for me as a leave in. It's still creamy but not too heavy and it melts into wet hair.

I use it as a leave in and moisturizer and now I get alot more tangling. I thought I read somewhere that tangles can come from cones and that's what I pretty much came up with why I suddenly really started tangling.

I'll probably stop using the new stuff completely.

WAIT WAIT WAIT. Humectress is my only moisturizing dc. Sally's GVP sucks. I tried it I took it back the next day. Even though the ingredients are the same the results were not.

I have to say I love the new Humctress too. I orignally tried the sample sized one in CVS. I don't know what they pack into those little bottles, but they seem way better than what's in the big bottles old or new. I went around town collecting all the humectress conditioners with silver tops. Then I used the new conditioner on one side of my head and the old on the other side.

The results were similar, but I was so out done because I like the new one better and i had already collected all these bottles of the old one. The new one gave me more slip and softness. I airdry and this is the only conditioner that leaves my hair soft and shiny with no additional product.

aw man....i love the gvp version, but i am down to the last 1 or 2 DCs in this bottle i have left and i was definitely planning on going to a salon to get a liter of actual humectress when i get paid. i still might, but at least i know not to expect too much.

So I read this thread about a month ago. Low and behold I go to BJ's and they have one bottle of Humectress w/ the silver cap and another w/ the black cap. The black cap has worked great for me but out of curiosity I bought the other bottle. Can't wait to see what the old formula can do :happydance:

I used the new formula and my hair hated. It made my hair a frizzy and tangled mess. On the back of the bottle it says that if you're not fully satisfied with the product you can return it, so I called and they told me to send them my receipt, and that it would take 1-2 months to process. Well its been 6 months now, and I still haven't heard from them. I use their phyto humectin extreme conditioner now, it gives my hair lots of slip and moisturizes really well, reminds me of the old formula.

Humectress use to be my favorite but now I just use the Humectin which turned out to be nice for my rollersets.
