No/low heat = growt at the roots too?

We all know that in most cases, less heat is better for most hair. We also have learned that it helps decrease/stop breakage and promote healthier growth but what about the strands and especially roots? Mine are so thick that I can barely see my scalp!

I'm only 4.5 weeks past my last touch up and I need another one. I've been self relaxing for umpteen years so I know what I'm doing and I relax my roots straight so I know they take well. With the last two touch ups... I couldn't take it and had to do it on the 5th week. I normally do it 6 weeks or longer. This time I'm going to wait until 6 weeks because sooner is tooo risky for me.

I have been using no direct heat and only heat from my sit under blow dryer for about 3 months or so now. My hair has drastically improved because my breakage has recovered 100% (along with dusting my ends until it caught up).

My issue now is how to cure my puffy hair and thick roots. I condition washed last night... didn't help. I still look cute today (smile) but to the keen LHCF eye, I need a perm!

I wish I had that problem of thickness. ;)

To answer your question though, the last time I went to the hairdresser, he ran a pressing comb through my roots very quickly and lightly. You could try doing that to help you stretch your relaxer. HTH

girl just enjoy it. I too battle between the love of straight and smooth and nappy and happy. Lately, however, I'm noticing my new growth is becoming more and more tolerable to the degree that I may not perm until DECEMBER. My co-worker said my hair is "trained" fom bunning so much. She may be right I dunno, but I still love the roots.

Thanks for the replies ladies. Miss* Tress, I was replying to you yesterday and as I went to post it, the system went down while it was being worked on so of course I lost the post.

In short, I think I'm going to keep pushing with the no heat and just work with it. The only direct heat I would consider is my ceramic flat iron but I'm going to hold out.

Hey sis. I know you still look cute. :yep:

Now, the keen LHCF eye is something else. That's such a cute way to put it.

Have you tried using a scarf to make your hair flatten out some? This works well for a lot of people.

I just recently ended my no direct heat challenge. And I have seen great results. Just like you , my hair is thick & dense. I am 14 weeks post and I have braids in right now.

I decided to transition. I have been using Cream of nature Rea tree & aloe cream hairdress. I DC every week when I'm not braided. but I've realized that my hair needs some heat or it gets too coarse. I like to sit under the hair dryer to aid the drying process. Then I'll usually cornrow and I wear lots of braidouts.

As I get deeper into this transition I will probably add direct heat with the ceramic flat iron once a week.
