you can try the "banding" method.

What is the "banding" method? Never heard of this.

You can also roller set it and then wrap it.

Banding is when you use bands (such as scruchies of some sort) to stretch the hair. However, it will not get the hair super straight.

Do you want to wear your hair straight or are you trying to show lenght?

I want to wear it straight

Then banding won't work...

What about roller setting? I've never tried it so I don't know how straight it will get the hair...

If you want to wear it straight all of the time, then you may want to get a relaxer.

If you just like having straight styles sometimes, then I'd suggest roller setting w/a wrap or using heat styling tools...

The only thing i know that gets my nautral hair straight is hotcombing. hot combing can burn your hair so i wouldn't suggest that.

I don't straighten my hair so I don't now anything that would get straight. maybe blowdring or roller setting? I don't know. you will have to use heat to get it straight.

You roller set natural hair as you would with relaxed hair. Just use smaller sections and use more rollers. Also, you may have to pull tighter...someone, a natural, rollerset her hair and posted pics...

I second the roller set/wrapping method.

I plan to wear my hair straight one day in the future and I dont want to use direct heat.

So when I get 3 or 4 more inches I will:

Condition wash my hair.
Spritz my hair with a leave in conditioner.
Section my hair into small sections.
Apply a bit of shea butter to the section.
Wrap it on 1 - 1 1/2 inch rollers.
Let it air dry all day.
Take out the rollers at night.
Wrap my hair (brush it around my head as if my head is a large roller)
Tie it down with a scarf.
Wake up the next morning and brush it down.

You can see this style takes a long time to do...and that is why it will be an "occasional" style for me. And if it is a humid day...then my hair will be what it is meant to be.

I have had too many bad experiences with heat...so I know that it only takes one time for me to use a hot comb or a hot curling iron and my hair will melt like a cheap plastic spoon on a hot plate.

Here are pics of my rollerset (I am natural):

Rolled hair (following Patience's instructions above)

Dry hair unrolled.

From here you could wrap your hair to get a flatter look and go from there.

Ya'll don't wanna see my end result cause it looked like a throwback from the Mary Tyler Moore era - LOL....... but ya get the jist of it.....

I also think the best way to straighten your hair would be a roller set on very large rollers. Take the rollers out and wrap your hair around your head with a Denman brush.

I wet wrap after shampooing etc. I wear it wrapped most of the time. But at least twice to loosen it right up then I pin it up as I leave it between shampoos or rinses. Hope this helps.

I am 3b and my hair gets fairly straight. It hangs and has waves and then if I decide to do a wrap I have a straight wrap with waves as if it has been crimped. Hope this helps. I do not know what 3a is like so it may work differently on you. Bonjour

I'm interested in this banding thing... what would the results be on 3a hair?

Jessy55 describes banding in her album. There is also a thread about banding .

ponytail
wrapping hair at night
rollersetting
ponytail and wrapping seem to be the best as far as getting it as straight as possible for me, as I haven't tried to rollerset yet, but I will!
P.S. I am 100% natural- no relaxer since about '97.

Oh, it's called banding!

I've been doing that for years. It's amazing that with a little trial and error people come up with the same stuff all over.
I usually just put my hair in a ponytail and then put scrunchies/hair bands down the length of the ponytail to make it dry straighter. It doesn't get as straight as it would from a relaxer though.
I also dry my hair using the pony tail method as described in some other threads here. That makes my hair silky soft, and very "straightish".

My hair is 3b/c.

This is what I do all the time. Relaxed and natural....
Sometimes instead of wrapping I flat iron after the rollerset.

I have an example of banding in my album.

Your example is a great one but different from the banding that Jessy55 does, for example. I believe she wounds or binds the length of her hair with silk or nylon and let's it dry that way, which elongates or stretches out the hair.
I use the method you are demonstrating in your album, which I call the ponytail/rollerset method of straightening hair when airdrying. My hair isn't relaxed bone straight so it won't be as straight as yours but still straight enough to show length. Your example and the other banding method are both great methods to straighten hair.
By the way AnjelLuvsUBabe, your hair is looking really pretty and getting long too.

elite_chiq,
I did a straight blow out in my album. I did use heat, but I had no damage. The pics are in my album under "straight blow out".
