Have you ever heard of this or are you doing this yourself, partially perming only certain section of your NG areas?

I know some don't relax the nape, but this is a new concept to me. What do you think?

For me I am only thinking to give my nape a break from the relaxer chemicals, once my HS would slap it on and only listened once to my request to omit it from the nape.

To accomplish this I need to become a DIYer and plan to leave my nape natural (hardly anything there right now) for at least for 6 months to give it a chance to grow in and be stronger.

As a natural (relaxer edges only), I never even thought of that, this is like an eye opener. I guess it was texlax to blend the two textures.

I'm not saying perming only certain parts of your hair is stupid, I'm just saying it may not be a very bright idea with the long run effects of overlapping/underprocessing...

I'm just thinking that its stupid...

Yes I can see that you would need to relax more of the length of the hair than the section relaxed. If someone is not paying attention, the overlapping and under process will occur.

What I was thinking is that when time to manipulate the hair the section that wasn't relax will tangle with the relaxed strands.

Okay let me throw another question out to you, can you use different relaxer strengths in different areas on your head?

Eg. Crown area has a rougher texture and needs a stronger strength, while the other areas takes the relaxer too quickly maybe you need a lesser strength to that area.

eg. Crown - Medium strength
Other areas - Mild (is there a mild - here I show my ignorance since I always let others do my relaxing).

This is what I do

I dilute my relaxer for the front (its more economical than purchasing two different strengths). I added 2 T to my relaxer and I smoothed 1x but the next time I am only going to add 1 T of whatever (because I was left with more texture than I prefer, I exercise and I dont like how poofy it gets) to my 1 cup relaxer and still only smooth 1x.

I also noticed that even though there is a small part of my crown is 4b, it is a fine 4b and the super that I use in the back is to strong and gets me bone straight. I am going to have to use the diluted relaxer that I use for the front on this very small section.

The back does not get diluted and I smoothed 3x

Yes there is a such thing as a mild relaxer

Thanks Myjourney2009 just got the notice today.
If you don't mind if I ask what relaxer do you use? TIA.

@Myjourney2009 your hair looks healthy and shiny. Narrowing down what my relaxer will be. Thanks!

@ Bnster
This relaxer gave me hell this past year. I started with the reg and suffered some breakage in the back after my first TU with it back in Dec 09. I did not realize until June 2010 that I needed to step up to Super even then I am still figuring out how much I need to smooth. When I use this up I am THINKING of trying silk elements relaxer because it is just too much work trying to get my hair the texture I prefer.

I've had to do so many correctives it is ridiculous. Its only the back that gives me problems not the front.

Myjourney2009

Right now it is kind of scary to me trying to pick a relaxer. Thanks for the feedback.
FYI- I wasn't getting a notification because there was a space before my name and the @ symbol. Good luck! HHJ!
