Perfecting my Kinky twist...

It is about time for me to redo my kinky twist but the one thing that I am having a problem with is keeping the base of the starting braid tight. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I truly hope that someone understands what I am trying to say.

I make sure to use ORS lock twist gel. I also kind of lift my twist up and twist as tight as is comfortable without breakage, I do know what you mean..I can never get the base as tight as my braider does.

I usually start mine as a cornrow(braided to the scalp) for about a half of an inch then start twisting.

how far down are you braiding? i found out i wasn't braiding down far enough, so when i started twisting it would slip.
