I came here, because I am really interested in growing HEALTHY hair. I've been slowly but surely trying to find out what my hair likes and what it does not like. Very recently I was in a car accident, and I have sewn in extentions, well on the right side, my hair was snatched out:nono:. Braids and all, I'm really panicking, I'm not exactly sure what to do or if my hair will grow back at all. Please help me. And please if you don't have anything nice or constructive to say(i know it's an open message board) please keep it to yourself I'm sitting here with a black eye/bruised face and very bald right temple, my edges were already thinning and trying to grow back, now i feel like this is an even bigger set back. I just feel so ugly now. I'm so glad my fiance is the man who he is, he loves me anyways, if it wasnt for him, i'd probably be even more depressed.

Before this, the only thing that I was using on my hair really was a mixture of the care free curl moisturuzier/megatek/coconut oil/infusium 23.

Welcome to the board! I'm so sorry about your accident! Don't worry about your hair too much that will surely grow back! I'm glad you are in good health and well enough to post here!
Happy hair growing!

I am so sorry this happened to you!! Thank god you are okay.
Once it has healed you can try JBCO I hear it work really well. I am sure some other ladies will chime in with ideas.
You've been though a traumatic ordeal don't look at your self as ugly. Bruises will heal and your hair can grow back.
I wish you well!

Hi I hope you feel better.. so sorry you had to suffer this traumatic event. Please just concentrate on healing. You can try anoop hair oil which is an Indian oil.. it has mixed reviews hopefully it will help.

:hiya2: Welcome to the board and I am so sorry about your accident. I pray that you have a full and speedy recovery. I agree with the other ladies that your hair will grow back. Coconut and Olive Oils are good for hair and skin health. Their antioxidant properties have been research for consumption and cosmetic applications. Feel better!

its a blessing you are alive, your hair will be back in no time. mega tek is great for growing hair back fast, before u use it do some research mega tek has a lot of protein in it, so always follow up with moisture.... happy hair growing and welcome to the boards

I'm sorry about your accident! I'll be praying for your speedy recovery. :yep:

I believe that your hair will grow back in time.
When you've healed up, you can try JBCO on the area, or another growth aid that you like.
And until it comes back, maybe you can wear wigs. They're a great protective style, can be lots of fun, and can provide you with a variety of styling options. Or if the spot isn't too large, some strategic parting and pinning of the hair can help conceal it, so you can feel less self conscious.

And I know it's way easier said than done, but try not to stress about it too much, because stress never helped anyone with anything. Not only does it negatively affect hair growth and retention, but it will probably impede the healing process. Good luck!

Vitamin E might be great for repairing the skin.

years ago I had boiling hot cooking oil spill on my hand, I started applying Vitamin oil two days later it took a while but my hand healed with no scars at all.

My family will pray for you my sista

Oh wow :( Are you ok? What happened? How did the braids get snatched out??

First and foremost you are here today typing on the computer so that means you are relatively ok. Thank God for that because based on your post it sounds like you went through something horrific. :nono: In regards to the hair I would wait a few months and see what the hair does. Massage that area on a very regular basis to help stimulate the scalp. Be gentle with it though, it sounds like the scalp is probably traumatized. If you don't see much change you may want to see a derm. Please update us on how you are doing.

Why would you think we would say anything nonconstructive? :nono: We're not that mean! I was recently in a serious car accident myself, and I wish you a speedy recovery :grouphug: the good thing is you are in good enough shape to be worried about your hair; I know after my accident I was looking at the damage to the left side of my body, and at that time I didn't care whether I had hair on my head at all, as long as it was still attached to the top of my spinal cord :lachen:

Your hair will grow back just fine; just keep babying it and moisturizing it as you were before your setback and hopefully in a few months it will all come back with some extra to spare.

:getwell:

I am so sorry to hear that you were in a car accident. I hope you get better soon. I am sorry that you lost some hair in the accident. Maybe if you wear some wigs it will help you to hide your hair until it grows out. When I had some serious breakage with my hair I just cut it all off and started all over a again, you may try this. Some of the other posters made some good suggest about how you can grow out your hair so please don't get discouraged.

:bighug:

So sorry to hear about your accident and I hope you feel better soon! As far as hair growth a lot of us have had good luck with sulfur mixes. I made my own but there is one called Boundless Tresses that I heard works as well. Good luck to you :)

Your poor thing...My heart stopped when I read you were in an accident!

I can't give you much advice but to focus on HEALING!

Your hair WILL grow back...and if you have to Wig it Up in the meantime get the cutest ones you can find...As a matter of fact, grab your closest home girls and go Wig Shopping! You gotta heal first though in your heart, mind, and body! God has given you mercy! Take advantage...Make lemonade out of your lemons....throw some Strawberry in there too!

Welcome to the hair boards.... :bighug:

I'm sorry to read about your traumatic experience; but it's good to read that you're alive! So praise the Lord for that. I pray for your restoration in spirit, body and mind.
I believe in holistic approach to recovery. So being surrounded by people who love/support you will help as well as the practical things.

If you're not taking vitamins, a hair vitamin may be good, but make sure you're still getting the necessary vitamins/minerals. GNC's Women's Ultra Mega Active pak is a good multi-vitamin.

If you're not drinking enough water now (at least 8 cups), try your best to increase your intake, to combat dehydration (esp if you're taking medication), tiredness and dry skin.

Try using products that are designed to stimulate growth externally.
Organic Root Stimulator products are great for stimulating growth; so is the Hairobics product line. My sister was happy with the Scalp Rejuvenator to address her thin hairline from years of braiding:

http://www.hairobicsallnatural.com/hair_growth_products.htm

I discovered that a combination of fresh fruit Smoothies, multi-vitamins and increased water intake was stimulating hair growth with my hair over the holidays.

HTH.. but most important, RELAX and take life easy... With time/patience, your hair WILL grow back.

I've been on other hair*cough*bhm*cough* and they will tear you alive for anything:nono: I was just thinking people would say I'm vain for being "More worried about your hair/appearance then your actual health"(this isn't true, I'm thanking GOD because it could've been worse). Thats all, so sorry, wasn't calling you guys mean.

But yes everyone, me and my son are ok. Thankfully even though the window broke right where his carseat was(same side) he didn't have any glass in him. And wasn't even startled. I guess he was of course too young to know what had happened(jsut turned 3 months).

Also what is JBCO? And where can I get it?? Also where can I get this vitamin E? I already have some Coconut Oil. Thanks everyone for being so helpful:rolleyes:

:welcome4:

So sorry about your accident, it sounds awful :nono: But glad you're ok! I think your mixture sounds great, if it was working for you. If not, maybe try adding a couple drops of esssential oils (like peppermint or rosemary) to coconut oil or castor oil and massage your scalp with it nightly.

I also agree with investing in some wigs. It's a good protective style and will allow your hair and scalp to heal without a lot of manipulation. Try Hairsisters or BlackHairSpray.

Happy Hair Growing, good luck on your journey! :bighug:

I thought about this sooooooooooooooooo hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, but I didn't do it, because I said to myself "you're stressed out, upset, so don't do anything too drastic" ...I may let all of my hair grow out a bit(i'm 5 months post relaxer anyways) and then BC. Maybe in another 8 or so months.

Thank you sooooo much!! I must look into the stimulators that you talked about. I was breastfeeding, so I still have pre-natal vitamins, would those work until I get some from GNC????? Also, do you make your own smoothies/ If so do you mind giving the recipie, i'd love to try this. And i love water, so I have that checked off already:drunk:

OP I am so sorry to hear about your accident and more importantly hope that you are recovering well.

Also welcome to the board.

It sounds like you have suffered mass traction alopecia so my advice would be to get to a Dermatologist (or Trichologist) to have an assessment to make sure that you did not sustain any follicular damage or that there is no infection to the follicles after the accident which can result in scarring later.

Also it might be a good idea to keep the scalp in that area very clean with solutions given to your by a Dermatologist as it is effectively like a wound now. After which you will have to baby the area probably with mild topical agents.

In the mean time there are some fantastic wigs out there which you could wear whilst your hair and scalp recuperate. The advantage of the wig is that you can take it off whilst at home and treat and baby your scalp.

HTH's and please keep the faith. Your hair will be back and luckily you are here today.

you will make it,. and your hair will grow back... i can relate cuz my mom was hit by a drunk driver dec 2008. she had to get her head completly shaved bald in order to get 53 metal staples across her head. her hair grew back. she overcame it.

I am glad to hear that you and your little one are doing fine!!! I know that was a traumatic experience!! How is your head/hair doing...are you feeling any of soreness/tenderness as you may want to just baby that area until it is not uncomfortable to put any product in that area.

Maybe start off with something soothing like Aloe Vera gel - don't even worry, girl - Your hair WILL grow back...

ETA - Just noticed that Stella and I are on the same page <wink>

So sorry about your accident! I just wanted to welcome you to the boards and wish you a speedy recovery! :bighug:

As for your hair, I'm sure it will grow back even longer than before!

There is not any soreness OR tenderness, I didn't even know it was ripped out until I looked in the mirror and was like "Why the hell are my wefts flying up(only two braids were pulled up and they are only about an inch long and they were SMALL skinny braids so the area isn't large) so i guess it's a good thing my stylist braids so small!!

:wallbash:@Drunk Drivers. SMH, ridiculous. I'm glad your mom overcame it, I'm so happy to know that I will too now.

Aww honey, well the two of us know that YOU know how you are healing (mentally and physically), so if you didn't think it was important, you wouldn't be asking. For instance, I knew my hair was matted, but I didn't care until I had everything else in order. I absolutely H-A-T-E when people try to offer advice and haven't set one toe in your shoes.

We know that clearly your hair is not more important than the safety of you and your son, but you have gone through the motions (and emotions) and now this is what you choose to deal with. I wish you nothing but the best!

You can get vitamin E from almost anywhere...I have seen it at stores like Family Dollar and then I have seen it places like Whole Foods. Wherever you are, take a look around the pharmacy...try the supplements as well as the first aid aisle. Sometimes it's near the scar care stuff.

JBCO = Jamaican Black Castor Oil, but I'm not sure where to get that other than online. It's said to be the best castor oil, but many women have also had success with the regular drugstore kind.

^^Exactly, I've taken care of everything else, now I want to take care of my hair. I just didn't want you all thinkign i wasn't concerned with other things(this is exactly what would happen else where :-( I hate asking questions there). Anyways, whats the best JBCO to get?? I heard it helps thicken your hair so i really needt his!!

I'm sorry to hear about your accident but it is good to hear that you are ok and healing. In terms of your hair I would recommend Claudie's growth products, I think it's called scalp serum now, it used to be called growth elixir. I used it to fill in my edges when they were thinning. She is very nice, I think she is still selling her products. I would suggest sending her a message on fotki letting her know the issue you are having and she could suggest the best products for you. She also is a cosmetologist with a good knowledge base about scalp and hair issues.

Your hair definitly will grow back. Think of the amount of times people pluck, wax and tweeze their hair and it always grows back.
