I wanted to try a braidout but just wasn't sure how you guys braid your hair. Is it cornrows all going back or do you do conrows straight down, is it individual braids or what? Also do you put a roller on the ends? If anyone has any pictures please let me know. TIA

I do braidouts by simply braiding my hair while its wet. I braid my hair in individual braids sometimes I use some type of oil too. I actually wear in these braids at least for a day then I remove the braids-there you have it. I have pictures of "outs" in my album.

Is it a lot of individual braids, everytime I try I end up with a huge afro.

I braid my hair after washing and conditioning. I make little individual braids (I look like I stepped out of the Color Purple), putting ORS Carrot Oil on the hair section before braiding. I secure the ends with a little black rubber band. I then spray surge on my scalp. I leave it like this for several days (putting ORS Carrot Oil on each braid every other day and spraying Surge twice a day) wearing a silk scarf around the house and a more presentable head wrap outside. When I take it down, it is soft, the waves have set, and it lasts a few days. This will be my basic style until I relax again at the end of June (10 weeks post relaxer). HTH.

So you guys don't put rollers on the ends at all then? I used to do twist outs but I would twist my hair going all back in about maybe 8 twists and then put a roller on the end. Are twistouts and braidouts that much different from eachother?

Peach Tree had excellent results withw braid and twistouts...

Currently, I'm wearing a twist out...very similiar but with loose waves instead of crinkles... however, braidouts are my fav

.

Tell me, did u roll your ends? If not, then there, problem solved!

Here's what I do...

After pre-treat, poo'ing, conditioning, leave in, & oil, I then braid the hair in 5 vertical braids. Here's my secret to nice, silky curly / wavy ends
sekret.gif

1) Braid the hair but leave about 1" of hair un-braided on the end. (if your hair is shorter than shoulder length, then leave about 1/2" -3/4" unbraided).

2) With the braided hair still in 1 hand, spritz a tid bit of moisturizer on the unbraided end (making sure to *again* dampen the already wet end). Lightly squeeze away the excess. (u can use your S-Curl; I use my leave in or even water).

3) Immediately spritz a tid bit of oil on the unbraided end (make sure to spread the oil throughout the end). Again, lightly squeeze away the excess. (your olive oil would be perfect to use here)

4) Wrap an end paper around the unbraided end hair. (u'll notice that the end paper sorta' "clings" to the wet end.... this is good
smile.gif
)

5) Roll the end hair on a magnetic roller (I use sponge rollers cause they're easier to

sleep in . I steam the rollers, apply oil then wrap end papers all around it. Measures taken to make sure that the roller does not absorb the moisture from my hair.)

That's it
grin.gif
Follow the above steps for each braid. I kid u not, this really works
smile.gif
. I played around with "PERFECTING" my ends & this is the best technique I came up with.

BTW, I have braid out pics & newly added twist out pics in my album. The braid out is in "April 2003". I invite u to take a look at my ends... I have absolutely no problem with frizzies or knots.

Sorry sweetie, I don't know anything about Henna

I have pics too. I braid individually b/c I don't want to manipulate my hair much b/c it's very wet, so I'm fearful of cornrowing. Plus my cornrow skills are lacking. I make about 18 smaller braids so my hair looks more naturally curly, and to help it dry faster. The pics in my album are of fewer, larger braids. I need to update, but now it looks more like Holly Robinson-Peete's hair when it's worn curly.

I used to use the Peachtree method too, but I got tired of sleeping in those rollers. I make a little conconction of stuff to put on my ends so that they are heavier and I can a.) get them extra moisture and protection and b.) I get to "mold" the curls. It's looks more natural and holds just fine.

I think I am going to have to expeirment with braiding all the way back, vertically and individually. I'm not sure which looks best but also I need to put rollers on the ends because I think my ends will look very straight.

IMO Braidouts give a tighter curl pattern, so I don't care for them as much. I like looser curls, so I twist my hair back in 5 rows (1 in the middle and 2 on each side) then when I get to the nape of my neck, I stop twisting altogether and roll a magnetic roller on EACH piece of the twist so that each row has 2 rollers at the end, for a total of 10 rollers. I hope that makes sense. It makes a fierce curly style, and everyone thinks my hair is that way naturally!

This is what I do too. I flat twist my hair in 5 or 6 rows and I roll the ends. It comes out in loose, shiny curls! I love it. This is usually my summer hairstyle.

Ayana, I noticed you said you twitst your hair back not braid. Which one are you dong? a two strand twist or are you actually braiding?

Soni or Ayanapooh,

Do you have a pic of the results from the flat twisting? This style sounds cute.

TIA

I get best results with braidouts when I do 6 cornrows.

My hair is uneven since Im trying to grow out my hair, so when I tried doing individual braids, it was a hot mess!

I'm actually two strand twisting it back in a row, kind of like a cornrow but only using 2 pieces of hair.

I tried the cornrow method last night but not going straight back. They're cool. It's a bit looser than I'm used to, but it's okay. I don't feel my new growth as much, but I have a part in the middle of my head....
ohwell.gif
It was faster, b/c I only had to make 9 braids. I'm going to try two strand twists the next time I wash, b/c I think they would be pretty this size and maybe I'll have less "textured" roots.

The more braids you do (depending on your length) the more tighter and smaller the curls it will be and it can look like a pretty afro. I've learned from Duchess (one of the great braid out queens on LHCF) to make just four braids. And for a looser wave pattern, I make braids after my hair has airdried rather than on wet hair.
Nay and Babyblue are also excellent braid out queens and inspirations!

Yeah, I have pics but I have to post them. I wore my hair in a twistout when I went on a cruise last year. It lasted about 5 days. It was really cute. I wore a headband with it on some days.
