Hello all,
I saw an infomercial last night on the Maxiglide.

What I'd like to know is...does this only work for relaxed hair?

Does the steam really help straighten the hair or is it just hype?

I question the infomercial because of the models they use, and I've read in the past that some of you have used it here.

Thanks
HP

I am relaxed and I use the Maxiglide on setting 1, so I believe that it will work for natural hair if used at a higher temperature.

I used the steam a few times, but the results I get are the same whether I use the steam or not.

What I'd like to know is...does this only work for relaxed hair? No. The MG works for both naturals and relaxed heads. I know because I was natural when I started using it and now I'm texlaxed and it works great either way. The key is to really straighten your hair well with a blowdryer prior to use.

Does the steam really help straighten the hair or is it just hype? I never used the steam much as a natural or as a texlaxed head because the MG works fine without it. The few times that I've used the steam I had silky straight results, but really, I found that the plates work just fine without it. Most naturals/texlaxed heads will stay away from steam - steering clear or reversion.

I question the infomercial because of the models they use, and I've read in the past that some of you have used it here.

I hope my responses helped. I love my MG! Because of it I gave up the pressing comb and even though I'm texlaxed now I still use it because nothing takes care of frizzy ends like the MG!

Thanks Foxy & Lana.

I'm not relaxed at all and am looking to see if anyone here uses this Maxiglide and if it's all cracked up to be what they say in the infomercials.

no: naturals too: it gives it nice flowy and bounciness: i tried it on my older sis who is natural and it really straightened her hair: a flat iron flatens her curl pattern but the maxiglide straightens as it flats it

it really does straighten the hair: it actually helps w/ stretching because it gets close to the scalp and really straightens new growth

Thanks lana,
I just realized that you said you used it as a natural.

I use it and I'm natural. I took my siggy pic out (well, someone else did LOL) and it showed the results. It is the only thing I can use to straighten my hair. I need them teefusses.

That's good to know because I want to straighten my hair without burning it out and with my flat iron, I have to go over it 2-3 times to get the result.
Do you use the serum they recommend with the maxiglide?

I'm not fully natural, but I have 3 years of new growth. The maxiglide is the only thing I've found so far that straightens my hair with no problems. For me I think its the little teeth. I actually feel like it works better on my natural growth than my relaxed ends. I'm probably a 4a, very thick and poofy, and I always use it on setting 1-3, usually as close to 1 as possible to avoid heat damage.

I've never used the steam button, or the flat plate.

Oh, I have pics in my fotki of my hair straightened. You can really see the difference b/t when I Maxiglided and when I just used a flatiron.

I love the Maxiglide. It is the only flat iron that gets my ends straight and sleek. I also use it on my daughter's hair and it really helps to straighten it out and she dosn't sweat it out easily.

hp the miniglide is the troof! i'm natural and it worked for me, and i got some rough stuff:eek: i'm not by any means an advocate of regular heat usage, but i told myself i was going to learn how to safely heat style my hair -- and i have -- thanks to the miniglide. i like the mini because i knew i wanted to do small sections and it's only 1 in wide. i tested two sections of hair (i'm still in yarn braids) and my hair turned out great. so it's a definite keeper:D :D :D and like curleed said make sure to detangle well first. the products they sent with it worked well too. here's some pics. hth:

Wow, I am honestly amazed that some of you only need to use the heat on 5 or less. I have to crank that baby up to 8 or 9 to get my hair straight. My hurr came straight from the plantation I guess. LOL

I am natural.....I don't use it as much as I used to because I try to avoid direct heat, but when I do use it, it definitely works. I think I set it to 5...I'm afraid to use it past that cuz it gets HOT! The little teeth can be bothersome...make sure you detangle very well before you use it and I would do small sections at a time. USE A HEAT PROTECTANT!!!

I'm natural 4b and I've used my Maxiglide 2-3 times in the past year and it does a great job. I'm not sure if the steam makes my hair straighter. I use it at 4-5 b/c my hair is fine-stranded. The teeth didn't I used it with a heat protectant from Sallys that my sister bought for me and it came out really straight and lasted for a day or two.

I am not relaxed anymore, but it works EXTREMELY well on my hair where my other two flat-irons only got my hair not straight at all or straight, but still poufy.... I flat-ironed my whole head last week and my hair was so straight, it was looked like I either had a fresh relaxer and flat-iron or a hard press like my mother used to do before I relaxed. I did not use the steam at all. I will be posting in any Maxiglide thread because the thing is amazing. The setting I used was 5.

Thanks all for your responses. I had no idea I had so many. I haven't been getting notifications for some reason. :ohwell:
I get back to you asap.

I do press my hair first with a hot comb, then use the maxiglide after. I use it on setting 5. I am 100% natural.
