You know what I decided to do tonight, I took a so called "reality check" pic of myself. I was strating to think that all of the briadouts and twistouts and straightening was my texture hair. I washed my hair tonight and before I slapped on the conditioner, I took a look at myself in the mirror and realized that my hair is a whole different creature. It is almost brastrap when stretched and yet in its completely natural state, it really is two inches long. I added this pic. Warning it may be quite scary looking to some

Have any of you done this before? I was almost brainwashing myself by forgetting what my hair really looks like. My hair really does not look like what the twistouts show.

yeah, I totally feel you. I quit fussing over braid outs and twist outs. I started wearing "Ms. Cealies's Plaits" under a wig until it got big enough (without manipulation) to wear out.

I wore the shrunken fro everyday this summer! Someone advised me that nightly re-twisting was the cause of my thinning crown. So I thought what the heck, summer hair is allowed to be itself. Needless to say, my crown grew back and my ends were less of a wreck. It's too cold now, so i'm up under the wigs. The shrunken fro rocks!!!!

Without products or stretching it to dry my hair is exactly the same length laketta. I don't let it dry like that though because it gets SUPER curly, tangled and dry. I might do it once though just to post in my album as well. Your hair looks nice like that.

I'm confused. Are you texturized or natural, because one of your photos shows "new growth" of a texture different than the rest of your hair.

Anyway, I think everyone's hair looks much different unmanipulated or unstyled. I do think some people could have a tendency to forget what their natural hair looks like, but I think that's a bit unlikely, because we all do what we do with our hair because we know what works to get the outcome we desire.

I rarely ever do much to style my hair - I'm not sure the last time I had a braidout or twistout. I typically wear a shrunken fro or a puff but recently learned to stretch it out a little bit by letting my hair dry in 2 low ponytails.

*off topic* Laketta your braidout is cute and your shrunken fro is not scary at all I like it.

this is why if I post my progress pics, It wont look like my hair has shown any progress /images/graemlins/nono.gif And people on campus think that my hair grows very slow...I just never blow it out so my hair looks like it is stuck at 2.5 inches.

Yeah, I have a reality check every time I poo. My freshly washed (no conditioner added) hair shrinks nearly down to my scalp! If I let it dry like that, then I'll be in a world of trouble, trying to get the curls untangled.

I recently realized the same thing Ayeshia. I was going to add my January & December pics to the 2004 year-end progress thread and when I put them side by side, they didn't hardly look any different (unstretched photos). /images/graemlins/look.gif Even though my hair is at least 4 inches longer now. I just don't feel like straightening it right now because it's so much work and only lasts for like a day on my hair.

@ Options I am natural. For 2 years now. That shot I think that you are speaking of with the yellow circle was when I took out braids and the braided part was looser when I took it down.

Thanks @ divastate. It took me a long time to accept that. When I first went natural I was sure I was going to have hair that looked like rachel true or freddy from a different world. but nope. It's okay though I love it and I have finally figured out how to care for it properly.

i havent done a reality check. I'm transitioning to natural right now. btw, your hair doesnt look scary, it looks nice and thick. I cant wait to grown out my hair.

Dont even sweat it. Atleast your hair is healthy.
And I get mad shrinkage with a relaxer. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif
