rollersetting: a little worried

I was a huge proponet of roller setting. I had gotten to where I had my entire process downpat. It still took forever to get all of this hair in rollers, but I always thougt the outcome was worth it.
Some of you may remember me posting on the old board about how I stopped because I noticed these tiny little hairs all over the place it was definitely breakage and I couldn't find anything else in my routing to point to except the all of the manipulation it took to get my hair in rollers.
Well, I have since controlled the breakage (aphogee deep treatment for damaged hair works wonders and I swear by it as a one to two week before relaxer routine). I would like to start doing them again, because I loved the look and feel of my hair after a roller set and its wonderful for winter because it lasts so long that I can get away with washing only once a week.
My worry is that I was doing something wrong to cause the breakage the first time around and am now afraid of repeating the same mistake.
Does anyone have any advice on how to prevent this type of breakage? The broken pieces were really small like no bigger than an eyelash but they would be all over my clothes and the floor by the time I came out from under the dryer.

I have been roller setting for a long time, and i have experienced what you described.... For me it was that I was not using rollers that were big enough or I was simply putting to much hair on the roller causing it to break a little. I have also since discoverd that using a cream leave in conditioner instead of setting lotion which was starting to dry my hair works well. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It must be the size rollers I am using. I tried to use larger ones, but I just am not as coordinated with them or something because the pins don't hold them securely enough in place. When I made caps for them using a method that Sweetcocoa posted about, it took forever for it to dry. I am going to have to buy a drill and see if I can drill more holes in the covers I made.

I know this post is really old but I was just wondering , sweetcocoa, how do u make the homemade caps for the rollers cause I just bought a large pack of rollers today which had no caps.

I use a drill and made holes in another roller(whic I cut open). But it does take too long to dry. Since then I use gray rollers(one size up from the purple ones) and use the snap on tops from the purple ones. I haven't figured out what to do when I need larger ones. I'm still looking for a site that sells them that way.
Also, I agree about using a creamy leave in or setting lotion on very wet hair and not a lot of hair on the rollers.

Thanx! I just bought a 12 pack of the gray rollers too. ANd I have the purple ones and I only have like 5 caps for those, so i only use those 5 purple rolleres and then just settle with the pink ones since i have caps for those. But I can never find large rollers with caps. If you find a site, let me kno!

Girl...I was hoping my son wouldn't walk in and say 'Now what are you doing....' cause I'm always coming up with some idea...if I can't find what I want, I make do.

There's has got to be somebody that sells the huge smooth magnetic rollers with the tops. I have juice can size ones.
Maybe we can email Diane products and ask suggest they make some...I know, I know...but I'm getting desperate...
