Roots of Hair Question

Hi Everyone!
Is it possible to hair 4a roots -- when you first start growing your hair. And then your hair loosen to become 3c or 3b? Please let me know what you think.

Texture changes the older we get so I guess it's possible but I would expect the 4a hairs would shed and be replaced by 3c or 3b instead of changing mid-strand. I think it's more likely that the hair is damaged but I don't know for sure.
