How did you learn to braid with extra hair(twist).....meaning was it easier for you to learn on yourself or learn to do it on someone else's head and then you finally decided to do yours

I want to learn to twist and i have tried once on my hair and of course i still need to practice.(need to work on get the braid closer and tighter to the scalp)

i was thinking on practicing on my daughter instead on myself until i get it down

Any suggestions please

i learned how to braid when i was 8. i had a my size barbie that i would practice my cornrows on. i used to have to get my hair braided all the time , so when it was time to undo the braids, i would trace my hair along the pattern while undoing them and then redo it back.and i practiced practice practiced allllll the time.my bff at the time let my play in her hair and so did my father. so i would do little cornrows here and there. i practiced the trait until i got old enough to do my own hair, and then i practiced on myself.

I had one of those doll heads like they use at beauty schools when I was a child. I watched my mother when she did my sister's hair then practiced what I saw. I have always been able to watch someone do something then be able to do it with my own hands. When I had my DD it just came together.

I can braid my own hair as well (without adding hair).

i can cornroll my but off i just can't do individuals but i guess reading your post i should get one of those heads with the hair and practice that way.

oh lol, i thought you meant cornrow. i dunno, for some reason when i hear braids, that is all i think of.i call individuals 'plaits' . people always end up having to break down the difference to me so i can know what they are talking about lol. those i still need practice on. especially trying to do them with hair, lawd.practicing a babydolls hair to me with these , is harder because they 'move' around too much:look:

I learned by redoing the last few rows in my hair after someone else braided it for me. After doing a whole head of braids by the time you get to the top of your head they're perfect no one even sees the ones underneath! :yep:

I bought the kinky twist how to DVD from http://www.braidsbybreslin.com/. She takes u step by step :look: and it looks easy I haven't done it yet. Only because going on job interviews I don't want to b stereotyped b4 I get my foot in the door. I bought her cornrows using extensions and tried it it was easy
