So I have been self relaxing for a while 5+years with good results but when I go the stylist to let her do she always rinses my hair with ACV BEFORE using the neutralizing shampoo. I asked and she told me it helps return the hair to a balanced ph. Is that true? Also has anyone had any experience in doing this? I am confused... I want to try it at home but I am little hesitant. Thanks ladies!!!!!

I personally haven't tried this, but it makes sense to me. In theory, the ACV rinse should quickly bring down the pH of the hair, speeding up the neutralizing process. I believe that I've read about others doing this to get "white suds" more quickly when using a color alarm neutralizing shampoo.

I swore by this bonelaxed. If I ever relax again I will always have my VAC/water mix ready. I did it after I rinsed the actual relaxer out and conditioned, right before neutralizing with 'poo.

I do this whenever I relax. It cuts down the time it takes to get the neutralizing shampoo foam to turn white in half for me. I haven't had any problems with it.

ETA: I use a 7 to 1 mixing ratio. 7 parts water to 1 part acv. You may want to increase this ratio if you are really concerned.

Yes, I always use ACV. I rinse out my relaxer, apply my mid-step protein conditioner, rinse, use ACV, then the neutralizing shampoo.

It most certain cuts down on the time it takes to properly neutralize my hair :yep:
