Self-Weavers...I have a question!

I did my first even sew-in today that I am SO proud of because I never even put a braid in my hair by myself before and managed to do 8 small cornrows going back. The only problem is that I had no clue what to do with the ends of my hair. I didn't want to just leave them hanging so I sewed them down at the bottom of my hair but it got kinda bulky. What do you do with your ends of your hair when you cornrow them so that they don't break off? Do you just let them hang or connect them somehow? Does anyone have any pics of their braid pattern b4 sewing in the wefts?

I have some in my fotki, but It's a circular/zig zag type pattern. I've only tried the vertical/straight back pattern once and I had the same similar problem about the ends, so what I did was braided them together straight across, but it was extremely bulky and it ended up not really working for me, so I ended up takeing the whole thing down and re-doing the only other way I know how, so I'd like to know the HOW TO on this as well. I do really like it straight back because the hair seems to lie flatter, but I just didn't know how to finish off, but I thought about maybe sewing down each individual braid upward(if this makes any sense)When you get to the end of the braid flip it up and sew it down. I think I'm going to try it again when I take out my current sew in.

I don't want to get too difficult cuz b4 today I swore I had no clue how to even braid. I guess 4 glasses of wine, 3 hours and a alot of determination really get the job done I ended up taking it down cuz i was scared about the ends. I may redo it again later in the week but try to braid horizontally instead of vertically and then sew the end of the hair underneath the braid. I only want to put two tracks in the lower part (below the ear) of my hair.

What you can do is take the ends of the hair and bring them back up towards the crown and sewn the ends in between the braided hair?

This is exactly what I do, but I use hairpins and then it's secured as I sew in the hair.
