Once again, I'm sharing a short article titled Shampooing More Often, from Woman's World, 6/17/10:

Basically, Gary S. Hitzig, M.D. , a hair transplant surgeon says
1. washing your hair less often makes hair more brittle.
2. that a by-product of testosterone called 5DHT can build up on the scalp, causing hair to grow out weak and easily be broken.

He recommends gently washing every 24 to 48 hours to keep 5DHT levels low.

Co-washing and/or shampooing infrequently has never worked for me. When i used to shampoo twice a week my hair and scalp thrived. I suffer really badly from product build up both in my hair and on my scalp.

At the moment i shampoo once a week but i may up it. Nowadays i just use a sulfate and paraben free poo that is moisturising.

I actually just started taking Saw Palmetto which blocks DHT. I'm hoping it stops my shedding and acne.

Frequent shampooing doesn't work for everyone but for me it does.

I shampoo (my scalp) 3 times a week. I have been doing so for about 2 months and my scalp has never felt healthier. I used to get alot of build up and during washes my scalp would be itchy (I used to wash once a week)

I also feel as though my hair is growing faster, I will need to wait a few months to see if this continues and if it's not just wishful thinking but I have a feeling it is so. I would think it was a mix between the more frequent scalp stimulation and constantly having a clean scalp that attribute to the faster growth.

Of course there are alot of reasons why such frequent shampooing isn't for everyone and this board is a testament to what works for one may not work for another but I think this is working for me quite well

I wash my hair at least once a week and my hair is thriving, even more so when I do it twice a week but I need to keep the manipulation down at the moment.
