I've never had ends this thin. It is due to a keratin treatment I had done last year.

What do you think? Trim or can I baby my ends to health and thickness?

I'm sorry to say this but I'd cut them. Mine looked like that before and just kept getting worse until I did a deep trim. :( as a matter of fact my hair didn't retain anything until I trimmed.

Your hair is really pretty! I'm sorry you had a setback due to the BKT.

I think you could cut the last few see-through inches straight across where you can see the hemline begin to thicken up and leave rest alone for now. Baby your hair by wearing buns/updos for the next month or so and DC often. You can then begin trimming the thin sides a little at a time as it grows out. Hope that made sense, lol.

^^^ This is what I would do, I had a similar issue with my ends after 18 months of neglect, I cut back to APL and then gradually trimmed off the ends until they thickened up.

I totally agree with this. A few months ago I made the mistake of ignoring a patch of splits, and they literally doubled in size in about a month. I wish I had just cut the 1 inch of bad hair. Now I have to cut two. It's not worth it to try and cling to a few damaged inches just so you can hold onto your length. Trust us, it's much better to have healthy hair.

Sorry for your setback. I would trim along the thickest part into a U-shape. IA that it would put you at BSL but with a nice hemline. :yep:

I wouldn't think of it as a setback. Once you trim, you are going to have healthier, thicker looking hair. Your hair will continue to grow, just it grow in thicker because of a better hemline. It does matter where your longest strand goes, your still BSL as your hemline shows. If you do not cut, then it will be a setback. And its not like you are cutting off healthy hair.

Would you keep spoiled, stinky fruit just because you paid money for it?

They re begging to be trimmed .Please don't take this the wrong way ,Atleast cut the see through ends there s no point in keeping a hold of them for the sake of "lenght " that is not really there anyway, overall your hair looks good but but those ends got to go ..they make your hair look unkept and unhealthy.

You can't really fix those ends but a trim would look so pretty on that head of hair!

You'll feel better once you trim!!!

Are they thin because they are damaged? Like when you actually look at the strands, do they appear damaged (splitting etc)? or is it because you have lots of hair that broke off so that less strands = the thinness? If it's the former reason you could do a deep try as everyone has suggested.

But if it's the latter ... that is, there's actually nothing wrong with the hair left, it's just sparse ... then you could keep cutting at a certain length until all your hair catches up. Sort of like the method recommended by Wanakee.

Whichever method will work.

Exact same thing happened to me I didn't want to lose the length but I realized that some if that length wasn't worth holding onto anyway. Ends were brittle and see through and holding me back from reaching my goals.

A month ago chopped 2-3 inches and hair has never looked healthier. In life or in hair care, never pays to hold onto what needs to be let go of.

Very well stated. I totally agree.

Zakina Very nice hair you have but go ahead and get it over with a get a good trim. I know exactly how you feel. I had to deep trim a couples of times. But I am now doing regular trims (less than 1/2) every other month(or two) now. My hair and the look of it fairs better.

I am not one who can go 6 mos to year without trims I found out, it will just thin out even though I hardly use heat. So I opt to just flat iron every few months just for small clippings.

Thanks everyone. I will cut it :ohwell:

Urban I did a BKT that led to me shedding ALOT of hair during a 3-4 month period. I lost hair from the scalp but the hairloss is only visable in my ends. My ends are not in a bad state, no split ends...its just sparse.

Nice head of hair lady! I'd trim little by little if you don't want to go into shock, lol. But I am personally scissor happy and I'd cut all the way to the thickness. You won't regret it 4 months later if you properly secure your healthy ends.

i say cut about 1.5 inches and baby the rest. I had to do the same thing recently and I'm still babying myself back to MBL. I initially cut about 1.5 inches and then and plan to do 1/4" trims until it all thickens up. I did a few test spots of the Arosci Intensive Keratin cysteine treatment on a few patches in the back and it's exactly there that I had the setback. It's growing back much healthier, though.

I agree. I would cut it into a U shape. This is actually how I prefer to wear my hair anyway. I cut my hair all even once and I just didn't like the way my curly styles looked when it was like that. It will grow back thick and healthy.

I agree, perfect time for a beautiful U shape. I am trying to get to the U status b/c I love the look so much.

I have found terrible splits and wondering what my next move should be so Im reading split end threads lol

I have tried to preserve thin ends. You can do it with alot of hard work, BUT you won't retain any new growth and those ends will stay raggedy and thin. Your hair won't retain any length or get any healthier.

I think your hair is a at a nice length that if you do a u-shaped cut and trim off just the most see through parts, you will recover in no time. 6 months from now your hair can either look EXACTLY like is does now OR be healthier and thicker and on it's way to being even longer.

don't fight it. :nono: trim, then protective style until you get the retention you want.:yep:

I think I'm about to cut my ends as well, I'm trying to baby my ends, i was trying to keep the length but I'm tired of being unhappy bout my ends. The truth is I'm only keeping it because SO wants it because of the length but f$&! that, it's my hair. He prefers girls with long hair but I'm a little bit past apl and think I have to go back to shoulder length or a little above and probably could go chin length
