Arrgh:mad: , I feel like I can't do anything with these protective styles that make them acceptable for a night out. Yesterday, i was invited to go to Miami this weekend, but I don't feel like I can with this bun! Plus, vitamins broke out my face, and although it has cleared up some, it isn't it's best which i'm sure will make me feel like crap in Miami w/ everyone looking cute. I've tried other suggested sytles (bantu twists, roller set) and I hate them on me. I'm used to the bouncy layered look. even with extensions they don't look good with 5 weeks of NG b/c my roots are too thick, which means i would need more tracks which looks bad b/c my real hair is thick :perplexed . I feel like I can't win. I went out this past weekend w/a rollerset (i added extensions b/c it was too curly and short) and I looked okay:look: but not my best. I just kept thinking, my outfit is too cute for this hair:(. It also seems like everyone is on me for not "keeping my self up." When i went to the gym, a male friend walked up to me and the first thing he did was touch my hair in a girl, you need a perm kind of way:lachen: . even my ls's have jumped on the band wagon. when i told one that i wasn't going to miami b/c my next perm isn't until june 21, she said "what are you going to do with your hair til then...just wear a ponytail?":perplexed I'm assuming that when my hair gets to BSL that the rollerset and other PS will look good, but w/ my back at APL and my front a little shorter, it doesn't look too hot. I don't know what to do 'til then. Thanks to LHCF my hair is looking and feeling good. I washed it today and used oil to seal in the moisturizer and I can honestly say the texture hasn't been this soft and manageable (aside from NG) in years. I just don't know what to do...please make me feel better:( with some words of wisdom

 Don't be sad. It's just part of the process. I'm going through it too. COuld you something cute witht he front like flat twists or cornrows. I;'ve been doing tthat to my buns and it's helped the monotomy, plus it would probably hide the new growth. And it's kinda beachy which would fit in well in Miami. Maybe braids? If they're a decent size they can be a great protective style. You can find someone to do it for you, adn it might be worth it for the piece of mind.
Keep your head up, and don't worry when everybody sees you with your hair all long and swanging and feeling extra soft they'll be jumping on the protective stylin bandwagon too. Lots and lots of hair blessings!;)

I feel your pain, you can always make exceptions for special occasions and when you get back to humdrum life make up for it and put it in pro. styles. You'll still be taking care of your hair at least minimizing the styling that might hurt your progress.

If you want to get your hair straight without ruining your stretch, try visiting a recommended Dom salon to hook you up with a rollerset and straightening your roots for this weekend. Now if you plan on getting your hair wet in Miami that'll be a different story.

The best thing I can rec. for getting bored is experimenting see what works for you.

Twist-outs are cute. I've had my hair in a twist out since Monday. All I've done is put a bonnet on to sleep and these waves have not faltered.

girl I feel you. I just go ahead and rollerset for a nice night out and wear that for a day or too. Remember you can still enjoy your hair. The key is balance. IMO, don't go too overboard with anything and miss out on enjoying your hair at every stage.

Yes they are. Have you tried that?

I agree, you should enjoy your hair!

When I have too many social engagements lumped together I like to wear a cute side bun with side swept bangs and really big earrings. It looks very feminine and has a bit of an edge as well:)

Thanks BBF, the emoticon is so cute it made me smile. :) I may try the twists in the front. I'm tender headed though, so I don't like when people grip my roots; it would be a nice change though:grin:

RIG and TB thanks! I think i'll add the swept bangs to my bun. I don't know how long my bangs are now, but it may work. Big earrings definitely help with the little bun.

Thanks ladies, it's nice to vent on here, since no one else gets the "infatuation" with healthy hair.

I agree. I avoid heat on my hair most of the time, that way I don't feel bad about occasionally pulling out the flat-iron for night or weekend on the town.

Just make sure you pamper your hair after it's all said and done.

If I was going to Miami, I would definitely invest in a style like flat-twists. They are more humidity resistant than a rollerset. Even if the back and ends get a little wild, the front will at least stay in place and give a little structure to your style.

I'm thinking of some "night on the town" protective styles and girl there are quite a few. There is the high or low bun, where you twist the hair around and pin it. There is also that boho chic headscarf thing that you can do. That is pretty sexy... especially if you wear a low bun with it ;) You can also pincurl your hair the night before and finger comb it out and pin it up so that the ends are protected! I think that any of those styles would be cute and are acceptable for a night out :)

I just put my hair in a bun and throw on a Kangol vent-air cap or Kangol Fidora. I got about 20 different colors and they can be dressed up or down. They are very sexy 2.
