Sometimes I wish I could wear my hair like a child...

so i can grow it Im sitting here with my hair in a whole bunch of little puffs because thats they only way i can get to my scalp. I wouldn't dare wear my hair like this outside, but think about it when we were like 2 and yonger that whats our moms did to our hair til it's long enough to do something else. It less work too becuase i don't have to take it back down and comb it again. I wish i knew what i know now about my hair than, things would be a whole lot different.

I get what your saying. I see so many beautiful african american girls with these long pretty twists hanging down there back. I can't change the past but I can definantely influence how I care for my hair and my daughters hair now.

hehe - girl if you lived near me or saw me in the street on any particular day, you'd probably go , wth was that? why? because when i'm off from work and not feeling a hair do - i DO walk around like a child - and, after the first few times i've done it, just don't care anymore what anyone thinks.

at the grocery store, i'm the one with plaits all over her head (pigtails girl, pigtails!), a twist/braid set (for a twist/braid-out - ya know i don't care if the parts are straight or not) that has tiny claw clips scattered here and there to keep that mess outta my face, straight out transitioning napps frizzed, poofed, wild as heck and stuffed into the biggest barrette i can get my hands on - oh boy, oh boy.

I'm with you LynnieB and Gigi, I wear my hair however I want. Maybe I was lucky that my job didn't care. Coz I have gone to work w/ my twists in pigtails which at initially hang down coz I created them when my hair was wet, then when my hair dried, they shrunk and pointed every which way. I looked crazy but I exuded such confidence that I seemed to convince everyone that it was a cool do. I've worn them again when my hair was a little longer. And even when I wore little plaits (no extensions) all over my head, you couldn't tell me nuffin. And the fact that I'm no longer a teen or in my twenties doesn't even come to mind when I'm styling my hair.

As for wrapping scarves, there are directions somewhere online I'm sure, but if you can go beyond trying to create a do you've seen and just try to do your own thang, you'll be surprised at how creative you'll become with time. I find it hard to explain to people how I do my headwraps because I honestly make them up as I go and stop when I hit the right look. I often wish later that I had been taking notes because sometimes I create looks I'd like to wear again but I never know in advance they'll turn out so well so...

Here's an example: if you had a big pretty scarf, and you tied it the way we all tie bandanas (fold into triangle and tie with the apex of the triangle going back and knot made over that back part), you can create a big bow instead of a knot and fan it out. And voila, you've got a very pretty style. I did sth similar to what I described but because I used a very big scarf, I didn't center it so that I'd have one long side that I can twist to create a "trimming" going around my head then made a bow in the back and to one side. I know how you feel. That's why I've decided to wear a wig most of the time until my hair grows to the length I want. When I first bc'd it was easy to style and at around 6 months it looked cute in twists but for some reason at one year it's either too long or too short to look the way I want.

When i get BSL, i'm gonna wear my hair in two pig tails. Like Krissy on Threes Company, im sorry but that is just too adorabe. LOL! Even for a grown woman!
