wow. when i'm 60, i'll be natural with gray/silver hair and, hopefully, it will be down my back.

unless i absolutely hate what my hair will look like when its long and natural (doubt it, highly. i'm transitioning now), i doubt i will ever rock a short cut again. but the universe can be a strange place, anything can happen.

my great-gram (rest her soul) used to wear her silver hair with pride. i don't know if she had a relaxer but her hair was like silk. her daughter, my gram, (who will be 75 in april) also has silver hair like silk but she still relaxes. and she wears wigs so i never really knew the history of her hair. i know its shoulder length. her daughter, my mom, is 54 and she still gets relaxed and dyed. she actually has a short hair cut, shaved in the back. i think she's a lifer.

my paternal gram is around 75 also. she never relaxed her hair (she is probably a 3b/c hair type) but she still dyes it. she also keeps it in a short curly bob. very grammy, but not cute.

i plan to deviate from this legacy of hair dye and relaxers.

That's a good question. I think I might be natural with a short cut or natural and long.

I have a question to those that are relaxed now, but said they will be natural at 60, why will you stop relaxing when you get older? What's making you wait until you get older to stop relaxing?

It's a personal choice. I like my relaxed hair at this stage of my life. But I don't think I'll be up for all of the maintenance that relaxing requires at 50 or 60. I've learned so much about locs maintenance since I've been doing my mom's hair.

My mom used to press her own hair, and then she decided to go for relaxed hair. She went natural near 50 because she got tired of the upkeep. Now she's on her locs journey.

Bumping :) Also to those that will go natural by that time, why?

Yes, that's interesting that a lot of people seem to have that as their ultimate goal. Why not now and when is the "perfect" age?

A TWA would of course be the easiest if I got old and sickly.

Because I really can't committ to anything. I've been visiting hair boards for the past two years and I just now figured out what works for me. Besides, mentally I don't think I'm ready.

I plan to remain natural at 60 and beyond. And the grey/white hair will not be colored. I don't believe I will do locs, though.

I'm wondering the same thing. :ohwell:

This thread makes me think that some people think that natural hair is best for kids (of course) and older women. Or relaxed hair is for the young and those "in the now", you know trendy. While natural hair is for when your old and out of it (because it's easy and you'll be too old (and as some have deemed "sickly") to bother). I definately don't think this, but it can be gathered from some post in this thread.
