Did anyone hear the Steve Harvey Show today? He had a guest (forget his name) with hair "tips" for women of color.

1) a woman called in asking what to do about the effects of hard water on her hair. He tells her to moisturize, moisturize a lot. :perplexed Why couldnt he tell her to purchase a water softener/shower attchement, then clarify, then moisturize?

2) A woman who is bi-racial and I assume is 3C-ish asked how she couldnt control frizz, she dont want a relaxer because she likes to wear her hair curly. He tells her she doesnt have to get a relaxer per se, but softseen carson (whom he promotes) makes a "light chemical" she can put on her hair to relax it a little bit. :lachen: yes he said "light chemical"

3) he suggest putting oil on the scalp/hair so your sweat wont touch it and dry it out during workout, because the salt with make it dry. Then in the next breath he recommend a weave because the sweat doesnt have that effect on weave. I'm like...hmmmm but the sweat will still be touching your natural hair right? so how is it helping.

He was horrible and dead *** serious

That's why I dont listen to him. He's always talking **** he don't know about.

ETA: Lisa Raye and him are my two least fav celebs.

What the....will well-known men (who are not stylists and who do not maintain their own elaborate styles) please STOP lecturing women on haircare?

Oh, and while you're at it, Steve Harvey, please stop dispensing sexist b.S. advice on "male-famale relations" to women hungry for "a man's perspective." Thankfully, neither my man nor my Daddy hold your limited and limiting views on gender difference.

Isn't steve hardy a comedian? And what was the profession of the man who was giving the advice? And what did his hair look like?
Oh well.

OMG I heard that this morning and I couldn't take it! I almost had to call in but when I got here I saw this thread!

I don't normally listen to his show.....but last week he gave the same asinine advice on "hair care". I wish his listeners would get real and realize the "expert" is promoting his company's products in his "advice".

ITs wasnt Steve HArvey giving the advice, his was some black stylist (male) he kept talking about/promoting some root of nature creme by Softsheen Carson

Was it Johnny Wright from Carson? He does Michelle Obama's hair. I am not impressed by him at all. He just wants to hawk Carson products.

Was he serious on #3? Hello, sweat comes FROM your scalp. So if anything, greasing it is just going to trap the sweat. :nono: this is too sad!

Some of that advice sounds crazy, but the oil thing does work. When I ran track and cross-country, I oiled my hair and scalp with doo gro oil. It does prevent the sweat from causing frizz, or crinkling up your new growth. I could just wrap my hair or throw it in a ponytail while running.

I wore my hair down daily with no problems "keeping" my style. I don't do that anymore because I tend to have an oily scalp.

On the moisturizing thing....nothing really wrong with telling someone to moisturize their hair.

On the chemical issue, um, no he shouldn't have suggested a chemical if she doesn't want a relaxer, but plenty of women here "texlax" and texturize to get the best of both worlds. Maybe that's what he was suggesting.

At least he didn't tell them to grease their scalps or not to wash their hair....

If her water is hard, she is not going to be able to rid her problems unless she soften the water first. IMO he didnt take her hardwater into considerstion at all. She dosent use products everyday, she said she uses them once a week. He made it seem like that was bad.

I almost called in this morning. I was yelling at the radio

ETA: I think the show has a contract with them so they can't really correct them while they are peddling products.
