I'm scared to watch it... can you give a short description on what it's about before I even click that thing?

It's just a woman showing what can happen to your hair if you were extensions for a long period of time. It's aimed at getting women to wear their hair natural sans relaxers and extensions.

Same ol' same ol'.

It just shows what happens when extensions are improperly used, and when relaxers are not used with discretion.

:yawn::yawn::yawn:

Most of of us have seen those pics she used on other sites, this site, blogs, etc.

The topic has been brought up over and over and over again.

I am not sure why it is that shocking that extensions and chemicals used improperly can cause hair loss and alopecia.

Wow! Just Wow! I hate to sound ignorant but I will still get my hair relaxed when needed. LHCF has taught me enough to avoid such mishaps!

I understand where she's coming from but I did not care for that last part where she showed that actress I believe with extremely healthy, thick shoulder length hair vs. the other woman with unhealthy relaxed hair and baldness on top of that. I'm sure there are women with unhealthy natural hair, just like there are women with healthy relaxed hair (as I've shown in a thread I started). I get the feeling sometimes that all natural ladies want all black women in the world to go natural or be natural or something...it's OK to educate women who relax b/c they think their (usually 4a/b type hair) natural hair will be unmanageable and hard to deal with, but it's one other to look down or hate or make decisions in their place about these women's hair:ohwell:.

Oh anyhoo...I might start a thread with that question.

:lachen: @ fire cream :burning: to refer to relaxers:lachen:

There are too many women wearing weave and getting relaxers who have a head full of hair. If someone is losing hair as a result of weaves/relaxers, then they are not using either properly.

Who are these poor women being exploited and having their picures circulated on cyberspace?

LOL I was thinking the EXACT thing... doesn't it go up to 14 or something?? I don't think it goes up to 15 like the video said.

Yeah I was thinking maybe she knows of a new level of chemistry or something. :lachen: There's a hair book out there (Shamboosie's) who mentioned a pH of 18 for a no lye relaxer. We never got to those advanced lessons in our college chem classes. :lachen: Maybe a chem major can school us on that. :lachen:

:yep: I have a beautiful deep complexioned coworker that wears weaves much of the time AND relaxes. Her pony tail hangs to bra strap so....

Oh, and she just gave the number to her weavologist! $50 per application :)

Chemistry major here! No such thing as 15 or 18 on a pH scale. :nono:

Exactly! Nothing scary at all, and definitely nothing you've never seen before!

Let educate folks on healthy hair practices instead of just saying that the only way you won't look like a bald headed scallywag is to go natural and stay natural.

And I will be applying my "fire cream" on schedule tomorrow with no shame in my game.

Exactly...I am WELL aware of how to relax my hair PROPERLY and NEVER had breakage problems or bold spots.... and as long as you know how to take care of your hair then you will be fine:yep:...we need to focus more on the health and maintenance of our hair with or without the use of chemicals or weaves.... then just saying if you dont stop using these products you will be bold!!

 she's "trying to save others from the pain." use of terms such as "creamy crack" sound to me like she's trying to feel better about her decision to go natural. calling a relaxer crack is simply judgmental and it seems as though it makes her feel better about herself because she is no longer "addicted??" to it.

facts are facts (and they will be very useful to many), i get that but to imply that people who choose to relax are less educated in their decision than those who choose to wear their hair naturally is pompous imo...and not to mention:deadhorse:

The judgemental connotations, incorrect facts, and scare tactics make it seem as if she is trying very hard to convince herself. If she can persuade enough people, then she will be justified in her decision? I am not convinced by her and would have greater respect for her attempt to "educate" the public if she did so using correct facts and nonbiased diction.

I'm sure this has been brought up many times in LHCF... First time I've seen it and I'm sure at least one other person has never seen it...

Was still a scary site for me to see...

Some of those pics were scary. It made me feel bad for complaining about my hair all the time.

I have worn lots of braids and I'm thankful that I never had damage like that. One time my side broke off really bad from the tight cornrows but thank God it grew back.

I see so many women who have traction alopecia. I know two women at work who do.

So is it true that the hair NEVER grows back with damage like that?

:lachen:at "scallywag", love that word.

There's a whole song for that word...."bald head scallywag;aint got not hair in the back; gelled up weaved up; yo junk is messed up!!....lol! It was just for info purposes I aint trying to pick on anybody hair.

As for that video I would say that any woman willing to "keep" relaxing, braiding, weaving, etc. AFTER seeing their hair starting to thin/bald out just may deserve to lose it....baldness is a sign that you are doing something WRONG! I know I will not keep braiding a receding hair line b/c before you know it I will look like Homer Simpson lol!

Healthy hair is healthy hair..... True enough.....:yep::yep:

BUT.....

Not all of us with natural hair want everyone to be natural.
I honestly could care less. I care about MY head. I don't have energy to think about someone else's head. I don't give a hoot in hell, unless someone asks me for advice/help.

IMO - the video was filled with Rhetoric.....Some of it incorrect/untrue.... So it really is not a good gauge....

 why is it that lifelong naturals are more easygoing about hair than those just stepping into the game?

Hair can be damaged with and without the presence or perms or weaves. Please realize that.
