Swimming hair care

Hello Ladies,
I tried to search to see if there was already a thread but I didn't see anything so I thought I would ask.

I am going to Las Vegas next week with my daughter and I know we will be in the pool a lot and I don't have a clue on what I should do before and after for our hair while we are there.

We are both naturals and my hair is color treated

Any help or advice would be great!

my daughter's goes swimming twice a week, and prior to dip in the pool, i will get her to wet her hair and coat it with a oil or butter.
after swimming i will always make sure that i use a chelating shampoo and DC (usually i just leave it overnight).
i have been doing that for a year without any issue, hope this help!
 
I need to know too, I start swimming lessons this week. I purchased a swimming cap on my lunchbreak just now.

Overnight DCing is a great tip! I swim later in the day and so I have been washing, then conditioniong, and then rollersetting, but that can get to be a lot . . . I will have to try the overnight DCing :yep:

I had to look it up, too :giggle: Basically a clarifying shampoo - removes chemicals, metals, etc.
 
From the kids forum someone says to make hair damp then coat with conditioner before then wash and DC afterwards. ORS has Aloe Shampoo which works great without yo ur hair feeling stripped.

Thank you! I will try that method along with seeing if I can find me a chelating shampoo.

I remember the poster @PrissPot mentioning sometime ago that she used shea butter to coat her hair while swimming. I'm calling her into this thread because she's a swimmer so she might know the whole A to Z routine.

chelating removes mineral, metals, chlorine....
clarifying removes product build up, so not really great for swimming.

i did struggled with the swimming my DD hair was breaking a lot, until i started chelating and overnight DC after swimming! her hair is fine now.
 
For people with fine hair coating the hair with conditioner might not be the answer because u may over condition and end up with mushy hair... I read someones post a while back about her setback from spending the day with conditioner in yer hair because she was going swimming. I would suggest making sure u do protein first maybe just to be sure ur staying in balance.

yep, i forgot to say as well that i use protein conditioner after the chelating and dc with a moisturising.
 
Okay I have never done an overnight dc, so after I wash our hair with the chelating shampoo I put our regular dc in and then what? Sleep with a plastic cap? and then rinse out in the morning? Do I need to do anything special after that or just style as regular?
 
I vacation in Hawaii every year and my sisters, mom and I always get cornrows. I usually shampoo everyday after swimming but since I started using ACV I'm going to try that and maybe clarifying conditioner. My hair tends to have more build up when it's braided vs. flat ironed.

it is better to use a deep conditioner. i shampoo in section, put a protein condish for for few minutes, than dc overnight (sleep with plastic cap(.
the next morning, just rinse and style as usual.:grin:
 
I wet hair, add a leave in and then seal so that no more moisture can come in. I also put a swimming cap on. I braid my hair before swimming, I don't want any swimming water to reach my hair or my scalp.
 
I make sure to braid my hair in about 10-15 plats and put them in a bun before swimming. This prevents my hair from floating around in the water and getting tangles while I'm swimming. After braiding, I make sure to wet my hair, put conditioner in it. I also use chelating shampoo (ORS aloe) and DC after swimming.
 
I think this has been mentioned, but I thought I'd second it. I wet hair and soak it in conditioner. I read that once hair is already saturated, more moisture can't get in.

I'm not as good in the after swimming routine. I actually am just doing water aerobics in a very splashy class so I don't know what I should be doing for that.
