Foxybronx, if the look works and you're protecting your hair I would keep wearing it. You're either going to have to put these BOYS in their place or ignore them. Redundant jokes get old after awhile. Pretty soon they will move onto talking about something or somebody else. I would also question your male coworker -- in front of others

-- why he is into your hair so much. Does he want some of his own to play with? Ask him to come to the BSS with you next time then. LOL. That will keep him quiet.

ITA. I think putting them in their place is tempting, but they are really only looking for a reaction from you, and if they don't get one they'll forget about it. It's not important enough to remember.

I understand how you feel, but I wouldn't give them all that power over me to be changing my morning for their benefit.

I would only be self conscious if it looked bad.

But, it passed the SO and Momma test, so who cares.

You should fix them all and pull out a mirror and your wig and put it on right there at your desk. Then say, any questions?

Then tell them, next time you'll just borrow one from their GF or wives, because I'm sure they have plenty wigs and weaves to choose from.

I'm such a punk I'd probably stop wearing it...but I love these tips. I know you shouldn't stoop to other people's level but I recommend you use some of the cracks that people posted up here to put them in their place...don't punk out like I would

I know exactly how you feel. I too work in an environment where not only am I the only woman but I'm also the only person of color too.

I have to deal with ignorant comments all time. I usually wear my hair natural/curly and came to work with it pressed one day and this fool says to me "Wow, how did you scare the curl out of your hair?" I just look at him and rolled my eyes. I didn't even repsond to his ignorant behind. Whenever I come to work with a new style I just prep my self for the stupid things I know I'll hear. I never let it stop me from rocking my wigs, weaves, braids or whatever. I just brush those haters off and go on about my business.

I wish i had an HR department, but we are a small office. Its only about 11 of us, not only that I am the only female employee...So often times they view me as being "Sensitive". I really need to find a new job b/c they get carried away alot of the time. Anyhow, The manager is buddy buddy with the guy who said it, so if i do report it to him I won't be getting anywhere.

I am used to being the only female, so I know what you're going through. I don't know if would help, but the next time an out of line comment is made, I'd get the culprit right in front of everyone and ask him if knows anything about makeup. He'll probably look at you like you're crazy, but then tell him that he seems to have a lot of knowledge with wigs and hair weaves, you just assumed that he was gay and you wanted some makeup tips.

It worked for me...hope it works for you.

If there's no HR to go to, then there's no HR to fire you for telling them where to go and how to get there.

[/ QUOTE ]Ok... Especially if worse stuff has happened. Who hired you if there is no HR?

Honey,
The president of the company hired me. One of my neighbors put a word in for me.

I feel your pain nicki, until just recently I was the only person of color too and the only female. Now there is a black guy that works here and instead of having my back, he gives me just as much grief.

My boss used to make fun out of my braidouts. When I finally wore my hair straight he said THANK god you wore that instead of that curly do (he said it in a derogatory manner)

Thanks Poohbear, your right!

NYCQT16, I am a chicken too girl, but these girls are giving me guts. Just today the black guy says to me, your hair looks longer, did you boyfriend buy you a weave? Instead of getting pissed and all sensitive like I would usually do, I just acted indifferent like I didn’t care what he thought, and I snapped on him.

Tracy, you are 100% right! They are looking for attention, I noticed that too…. But the problem is that if I don’t give them attention they keep harrassing me until they get a rise out of me..Its hard to ignore. But i shouldn't let them change my morning though.
