my mother says that i use too many products in my hair. is it really bad for your hair to use a lot of products becuz i was still trying to figure out wat works 4 my hair. could too many products slow down your growth rate?

i would imagine that if they did slow down growth rate, then that means that you used them on your scalp and that blocked your pores.

too many products on the hair shaft can eventually stop the hair from absorbing the moisture, i think...
too many producs on the scalp won't let it breathe so that hair can grow

I do think it's possible to have too many products, but it all depends on what purpose they serve. I am in the process of narrowing down on the number of products i use. I don't see how it's necessary to have three moisturising shampoos, two clarifying shampoos, four deep conditioners etc. if we find something that apparently works so well, why do we keep buying more stuff... do we really need virgin coconut oil AND black castor oil AND wild growth oil? i mean, i granmother grew her hair past bra strap using only cream of nature poo/con, refined castor oil, and sponge rollers... and a satin head scarf. and here i am with all this stuff :ohwell:

Girl you read my mind.... I'm sitting here thinking the same thing. I've gone out and bought all of this mess when back in the day all I needed was Dax tar grease, cream of nature shampoo, pink oil moisturizer, and cholesterol hot oil. My hair grew faster too.... alot faster. :ohwell: How bout I'm getting ready to streamline my stash.

Yeah, I think you can minimize a lil bit if you want to. I have 4b hair as well and when I first chopped I had more products that I do now because I was trying to see what my hair liked and disliked. Right now I use a prescription shampoo 1 or 2 times a week, DDTA or VO5 conditioners ( any type but I really like the Freesia VO5), and unrefined shea butter. This week i'm not using shea butter just because I was too lazy to zap it in the microwave after my shampoo --- yeah, that was a real lazy day . You can definitely get away with less though. Good luck :) .-- jainygirl

Well, it has been said that the less you do to your hair the more it grows. Right now I'm washing my hair with Dr. Bronners Liquid Peppermint Soap, Jasons Naturals Biotin Shampoo and Conditioner. For deep Conditioning I use Motions CPR. I use Surge oil and spray to moisturize. That's pretty much it.

I don't use another product until I run out but I try to minimize them. I know that the peppermint liquid soap will forever be my staple. I love how it make my hair and scalp feel.

But like they say less is more but we know that it can be difficult.
