I am in my 10 month of transitioning for the second time...last time I bc'd at 9 months. This is not working. For the past couple of washes I have been losing a ton of hair, handfuls of hair, too much hair....help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember when you relaxed!...well, I guess the first question is, what are you doing different this time around? One extra month doesn't seem so drastic that you're losing handfuls of hair. :/

Last time I washed/cond and blow-dried and flatironed weekly until my 9th month. this time I have been doing protective styling like buns, wigs, and weaves...I hate to say it but my hair behaved a lot better with the heat...yeah, and I should have stayed true to myself and never got that stupid perm...got one in jan 2010 and April 2010...no more since!!!

Don't beat yourself up over it. Now, you know, and is doing what's best for you, and that's all that matters.

Are you sure a lot of that is not shed hair?

That sounds like shed hairs that you didn't remove. When transitioning, it's sometimes hard to remove all the shed hairs, and still be gentle enough not to cause breakage. So those hairs get trapped. When you wash/wet shed hairs, they tangle and matt.

I wonder if I should expect this with a long stretch too. Hum...I would lay off the flat iron and maybe do a protien treatment. Good luck

I've been transitioning to texlaxed since I joined, and I just had this problem. It was ridiculous, like back in the day before I found the board. :nono: Mostly shedding, but a little bit of breakage as well. The problem was lack of protein/ laziness. :giggle: I had been using the Aphogee 2 min with every wash, and henna twice a month, but I got sick and fell off. Then, I totally forgot about my proteins... but my hair didn't, lol. I was forced to do a huge (to me) cut, from APL to CBL.

Oh well, it was 'bone-laxed' hair anyway, glad to see it go.

try adding ceramides, moisture, and lightweight protein at everywash.......when i transitioned i had lot of breakage towards the end cause of the difference int he 2 textures, i truly wish i would have straightened more even if it was just 1-2 times a month....i probably would have had more retention.

You have to maintain consistency with the texture. That means keeping it in its straightened state. For as long as you want to keep the relaxed ends.

Give yourself a hard protein and follow up w/a moisture balance, dry and flatiron.

But I also know not all hair types can transition - maybe unpopular on LHCF, but its true nonetheless.
