Try caster oil for dry ends

OK once the cold weather finally hit the east coast, my ends went dry and fragile. This is definitely something that hinders me retaining my length. I grow in the warm months but my hair "appears" to stay the same length or get slightly shorter in the cold months. It took me getting pregnant and being pregnant during the winter to realize that my hair grows (my hair grew like a weed during that time!).

Anyway to stay on point, I have tried everything in the past to deter these ends. Deep conditioning does help but it is time consuming and I have a 1 year old child and a full-time job. So I just wet my hair in the shower, towel dried it a little bit, then applied the caster oil. I did this at night so I just braided my hair in 2 plaits. In the morning, I took the plaits out and there was nice soft and smooth ends. I have been doing this for a week about every other day. It is fast and simple.

Hope this helps someone.

thanks for suggesting that. my hair is suffering due to the weather. its breaking and i know if i dont do something its gonna be see thru ends galore. my hairdresser always told me my hair doesnt do well in the winter. i would like to try the castor oil but i think its kinda thick. and it kinda has a strong smell. what type of castor oil are you using?

Castor oil is excellent. Nice and thick and I know it works well on the ends. Castor oil also good for thickening the hair. It is one my forever stables.

Thanks for the tip!! My hair is starting to get long enought to start pinning up in fake buns so this will come in handy. I think I will start using this on my ends along with my nourish and shine for the new year to protect my ends.

yes, castor oil is very good for locking moisture into dry hair and ends... it has been working like a charm on my hair for years now..smile....

I have noticed the same thing since the dryyy colddd air has begun here in nyc and i thought it was just me cuz my hair wsnt tangled, its just that the ends got soooo dry and britte that i did a 2 inch CUT just to get the ends thickend up ( of course theyd been thin 4 a while but icouldnt deal with the splting:mad:) I have 2 bottles of castor oil but im scared its gonna make my ends look think becuz its heavy! anyone have a prob with this???

I love castor oil and when short on time or too tired to look for anything else I have used it at night and my hair is always soft and not greasy in the morning, but I was not consistently using it, I will definately give this a try. Thanks girl:D

When I used castor oil on dry hair, it seems very thick and not to work well. But on wet hair, it has made all the difference. I am using the Palma Christi castor oil, but I think that any plain castor oil will do. I purchased it from the health food store but I think that pharmacies sell it too.

This stuff is amazing!

So that's your secret! :sekret:
How are you applying the castor oil to your dry hair, besides the ends SherryLove? Do you use just a tiny bit or more? And do you still have body to your hair after applying? TIA.:)

I learned the benefits of castor oil from Mkstar. She mixed it w/ conditioner, used it as a leave-in and I have been doing that ever since. My hair soaks it up, it's non-greasy, washes out easily, and makes detangling when I was a breeze. I love castor oil. I use it in all of my hair concoctions. My hair really doesn't like direct oils, but I really likes that one!

Castor oil is grrrrreat for ends! I've been doing this and recommending it for awhile. It is thick and sticky but once it dries on the hair you won't notice anything but the softness.

^^^^^^^^ I agree. Castor oil does not cause greasy hair and I do not notice an odor. It creates shine and definately seals in moisture. Thanks for the reminder OP..I gotta go dig out my bottle

hey isis....i usually break it down with jojoba oil or WGO first, then apply a moderate amount (slightly more than a tiny bit) to my hair - where it looks shiny, but not greasy. i usually do this about every other day. and yeah i still have a considerable amount of body to my hair after doing this.

take care, ma...

I have a bottle I never used because it was so thick and thought it would leave my hair greasy. Thanks for the review. I might go ahead and try it out.

Thank you SherryLove. This is very good information. :)

Thanks for starting this thread. I use Castor Oil all the time but never like this. I washed my hair this morning (9 AM) and put Castor Oil on my wet ends and now (9 PM) my ends are super moist and not greasy at all.

I'm going thru a very dry spell right now I was thinking of daily CW. This may be all I need.

Thanks Again!

Thanks Sherrylove and nijilah! I still have quite a lot of castor oil left...wait is this the Jamaican Black Castor Oil or regular castor oil (I don't know if there is a difference but I have the Jamaican Black Castor Oil) that everyone is using?

I put some castor oil throughout my hair and ends before pincurling my hair and my hair is so shiny, bouncy and not greasy at all! I ran out of jojoba so I used just used the castor oil, pouring out a little in my hand, rubbing my hands together and distributing it over my hair.

All this time, I thought ladies were using it mostly on their scalps and I didn't really want to grease my scalp with it every night. I'll be adding this to my regimen.:)

The ladies here are using regular or Jamican Black Castor oil. Some, like me, are using cold-pressed, unrefined castor oil usually found in the health food store. From the posts I've seen, it looks like they all work well.

Hi ladies, this is my first post. I've been lurking for 2 years and using all of the good tips for growing long and strong hair. I jumped on the castor oil bandwagon and it really does work like a charm. It leaves my hair soft and shiny. Even when I stretched for 3 months it made my new growth soft and I managed it very well.

Welcome Tyboogie!

So are you using castor oil on all of your hair or just your ends and new growth?

Hi Isis, I love your hair. I use it on my the newgrowth and my ends too. I put a cap full in my Salerm21 leave in.

I have the regular coldpressed castor oil from the health food store. I mixed it with MSM, honey, evoo and one of my cream moisturizers and I apply it to my scalp. I didn't think of using it on my ends because of how thick it is but I will from now on because I do nothing but bun my hair. I don't even know what it looks like down. :ohwell:

I too use Castor oil on everything.

Day prior to Thanksgiving, my daughter stepped on a nail. It went thru the fleshy part of her foot. After she returned from the emergency room to get the shoe removed (peice went in), I washed and wrapped her foot every night in Castor oil and a little msm. She went to school on Tuesday and you could barely see the entry point and she barely had any problems. No infection, and just a little swellin. To date, its hard to tell she had any problems.

I just bought some, and at first I thought it would be too thick, but it actually worked very well. I just love this board.:)

my grandmother and mom used to swear up and down that castor oil makes your hair thicker. she was convinced that was why my hair was thick when i was young. but i have 4b hair and most 4bs have thick hair anyway. but i will try this as soon as i go home next week.
