Hello ladies! So I was looking around the forum for protective styles, and after all the suggestions I got for protective styles and such, I think that twists would be a best way for me to retain length. My first full year of being natural will be this upcoming August 1, 2010 (Yay!!
lol)... Anyways, that leaves me 3 months until my one year natural hair anniversary and I want to have a lot of hair growth by that time. I got the idea of the Twist for Growth Challenge from "ooops2" (there may be one more 'o' in her username)... and that challenge was in 2008, so who wants to join me for the Twist for Growth Challenge for 2010??? Since its the beginning of May, its a great time to start. I looked at the old Twist for Growth Challenge thread, so I suggest we could use the same kind of rules:
1. Wear twists for at least 1 week (I will try to go for 2 weeks with twists, and then 5 days of a twist out, and then twist again)
2. You can wear your hair out for only up to 5 days after taking your twists out (like in twist-outs, afros, wash and go, etc).
3. Then twist up again
4. Maintain Moisture, especially to ends ( I will be adding an olive oil, jojoba oil, and avacado oil mixture to keep my twists lubricated)
5. DC after each wash (so every week or every 2 weeks depending on how long you keep your twists in)
6. Low Manipulation
7. Post a picture of your twists at the beginning of the challenge, and post an updated pic every 2 weeks... Also include what products you are using for your twists and for moisturizing!
8. The challenge will be for 3 months: from May 7, 2010- August 7, 2010
Anyone who finds out about this challenge later on is free to join as well!
For those who are having difficulty keeping their twist-outs fresh (if you want to wear it for the full 5 days), I suggest looking at this youtube video by Freeworship on how to maintain your twist-out style... it really helped me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2pEMnyJ49o
I think this would be a great way for all of us to stick to a protective style and support each other while doing it!
Post and include your intial twist pic as soon as you can!
(I am twisting my hair now, so I will post a pic of my twists later today)
