...what is coconut oil supposed to smell like? I purchased Pacific brand coconut oil in a blue bottle. It hasnt expired, says its food grade, and uh...it stinks...

...to me at least

It doesnt smell spoiled but it smells like over toasted almonds. It made my hair and skin really soft but the smell is making me sick...maybe its because I used it on an empty stomach. Anyway...I know how folx get spoiled by commercialized fragrances but..uh...this just isnt getting it. Maybe the natural smell is too natural for me...lol..

Anyway...is this normal? If so do you mix it with something to improve the fragrance, if not what brands do you use?

Hmmm. I have coconut oil, but it isn't food grade. Mine is virgin coconut oil. It smells like coconuts.

I bought some food grade coconut oil, too, that didn't smell right to me. I'm going to upgrade to the virgin. To me, coconut oil should smell like coconuts.

I have three differnt types of coconut oil. One is an organic food grade and has no smell at all. Another is non food grade and doesn't have a smell either. The last one I have has added essential oils and smells just like coconuts. But I'm thinking there is added fragrance.

Pure coconut oil in my experience shouldn't have a distinct smell...

I get food-grade oil (the stuff you can fry your eggs in). It should smell like nothing, basically. If you uncap that jar and you get a strong smell, its rancid. I always check before I buy, now, I learned my lesson.
That rancid smell is just yuck!

The organic coconut oil STINKS I added lavendar oil which helped a bit but still...

Next time buy the spectrum brand it is unscented

I use Garden of Life extra virgin coconut oil and it smells just like coconuts. I like the smell. I have never tried any other kind.
