Using a mixture of Lye and No Lye to Relax

Hi Ladies,

I need your opinion on something. Very hopefully I will relax tomorrow. However since I started doing my own relaxer 2011 I don't take any relaxer burn for nothing, hence my edges do not come out straight. Those are my sensitive spots. So after my relaxer my edges look a mess.

So what I was thinking was because I want to continue using Lye Mizanni BB, I want to try something different to my sensitive spots. Apply no-lye there.

What you think? Are you screaming no? I will try my darness not to let the two chemicals not to come in contact with each other.

I forgot to go and buy a non-lye product. I want pretty edges without the burn.

So please comment and give me your opinions. Have any one tried this?

I'm crazy hey. I want the best in both worlds!

Later Divas.

Don't do it girl!! It's a recipe for breakage due to the different chemicals in each relaxer which could possibly mix when rinsing out. Please stick with one or the other.

So nobody done this or thought of this? Hmmmm. I wish to have hard facts that chem and chem mix causes this, etc.

But fear keeps me away from doing this.

Uh uh girl, don't do it.

Though you can interchange between the two relaxers, I would not have both chemicals on my head at the same time. They could mix together either during the rinse out process or accidentally during the application process, and cause who knows what kind of reaction.

Play it safe and use one over the other. I say stick with lye, and base the sensitive parts of your scalp so it doesn't burn as much.

Or here is another solution. Don't relax the edges at all then the following week apply a no lye.

just relax your edges last. like when you start to smooth, apply the relaxer to your edges and make sure you base your scalp well. my edges are fragile too, so that's what i do.

Yes since I have control now doing my relaxers, I started to apply my edges last as well. How well do you base your edges? I try, but impossible not to touch the hair on the edges.
I have to go out but will be back.

Don't mix!!!! We don't want to see you post later and include "sad" smileys. As some of the other ladies mentioned, just base the area under your edges REALLY WELL.

Use a product like this:

I used to use a different base that was pink and had a minty smell, but can't remember the name. It worked really well.

Also don't put soooo much relaxer on the edges that it looks like you are doing a deep condition. Use a fine-toothed comb after you base and CAREFULLY apply the relaxer trying to touch your skin the least possible.

Let us know how it turns out. Good luck!!

I have that base, will be basing tonight. I won't mix and yes I don't want my hard work down the drain. I am surprise of all the ladies out there that relax this didn't go through their mind of lye / no lye process even though not on same day. If I thought it through properly and no not mix it I am not a chemical engineer, I could make it work through stages.

I don't have patience for that honestly, I want the finished results done properly and at once. Hahahaha.

I think I will base heavily, that may back fire on me. Hahahaha. Well base more than I normally would and see. The base cream will get on my hair though, which I try to avoid. Prepping my hair tonight and taking before pics.

My sanity has returned. hehehehe.

The only thing of not having smooth edges (because I don't allow enough processing time because of burning sensation) is that I turn to no lye relaxers. :nono:

Nix08 told me about using Aloe juice on the scalp after relaxing before DC. I will try that too.

I don't get burns (only a slight tinglying and hot spots) not like when I went to the hair dresser, because I don't allow it to happen, when I feel it I wash it out. I always relax the edges last. That is the best thing about being a DIYer!

Negative, I don't get those smooth edges. I want them, summer is coming and I want that all clean look!

BTW, you could also mix some oil into your relaxer when you get ready to do your edges, that might make it more conditioning, thus less irritating. (And might make it burn less if it touches your scalp.

I also mixed oil (jojoba or avocado) into my lye relaxer before having my hair relaxed. The oil seems to add a conditioning element that really does wonders for your hair. My hair ALWAYS looked smooth and silky after a relaxer with oil.
I would mix in about 1-2.5 tablespoons of oil into the amount of relaxer being used to do my whole head.

Just a thought.

By the way, you shouldn't store any relaxer that has been mixed with oils, so use a mixing bowl, not the original container.

Thanks relaxed today, will be posting pics tomorrow or so. I used only the lye. I just have crazy thoughts. hahaha. :lachen: :lachen:

I did get minor burns, I had a tingling feeling, so it was bearable. Aye I didn't mix with oils, maybe next time I will. Thanks BlkMane

My hair is still damp, I am air drying. Tomorrow I will flat iron so I can take pics.

Thanks for everyone responses.

:couchfire: Time to put this thread to rest. :couchfire:
