I am currently natural and about 12 weeks pregnant with my second baby. I went natural for many good reasons, not because of relaxer damage. Before I went natural I had just found an awesome stylist who helped me achieve beautiful, healthy, relaxed hair. I have recently decided that I would like to go back to relaxed hair because my 4a hair is <<hard>> to keep straight when pressed and I always get damage and tons of shedding after it's been pressed. I would like to wear my hair straight more than curly so I believe that a chemical process is what I need.

I'm not afraid of doing this while pregnant b/c I am waiting until the 2nd trimester. My question is will the relaxer take? I read a couple of posts about relaxers not taking on pregnant women. Oh, for clarification: I would like to texturize but I want my texturizer as loose, or looser than Den1's. Please help. It's been forever since I have relaxed and even then I didn't know how to take care of my hair until right before I did the bc.

I've no answers re: whether the relaxer will take. Just wanted to say congratulations, MariposaMorena. /images/graemlins/grin.gif [I don't think I've seen you post for a while, but then again, I haven't been around much for most of the year either.]

Some peoples hair do get more resistant to relaxers when they are pregnant. There is no way of knowing how your hair will behave until you try. Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy. When is your due date? I'm due May 14th.

I would wait because you don't want to have to do a corrective relaxer after you deliver. I'd just keep my hair in braids until after delivery and then get the relaxer.

I had a relaxer done in the second trimester with my daughter. Waste of time. I suggest you do a strand test. Just snip off some hair and try it first.

@ Nyambura: Congrats to you too!!
@ Crazy About Hair: Another congratulations is in order for you! My due date is May 30th.
@ Ms. Kenesha: My job doesn't allow braids so I'm kind of stuck.
@ God Made Me Pretty: Say it ain't so! I'm a bit impatient, which is why I did the Big Chop and now I'm thinking: Wait until June! I will have to try the strand test for sure!

By the way, sisters, thanks for the responses!
