Wearing your hair in a bun really works.....

I have been wearing my hair in a bun since March 06. My hair was natural and I decided to tame it a bit by getting the Wash and Wear relaxer which is much like a texturizer. When I got the texturizer, the stylist cut aboout 3" of my hair. I started wearing my hair in a bun. I try to keep my hair moisturised so I spray it down every AM and PM. At night I put in 4 braids and pin up and put on my silk scarf. Like I said I have been doing this since March. I was going to get cornrow braids, but I decided not to because I re-read the thread about the lady who grew 8-9inches by wearing her hair in a bun. I had noticed that my hair was growing, but I didn't really realize how close I was to waist length. In March my hair was touching my shoulders, my hair is now a little past brastrap. I measured to see how far I am from waist length and it appears to be 6inches. This has happened and it has not been a year yet. This is why I decided not to get cornrow braids because the bun seems to be working in helping me to achieve length. I will be giving myself touchups every 8-9 weeks and my hair does not seem to suffer from it. I will be starting a new regime on Sunday and hopefully I hope I will get some good growth because I want to wear it down for the first time in June 07. I will be getting it professionally done at that time and I just know they are going to trim about 2-3 inches from my hair. I'm not for sure this will happen, but I'm just anticipating it so I won't be shocked. By the way I am 5'8" and I believe the lady who grew her hair out by wearing a bun was 5'3" and she was about 3" from waist length. The obvious question is I want to see pictures and I promise I will post them. But right now, I am on the Sweet Success Challenge and for six months I'm concentrating to see how much growth I can get by eliminating sweets. I am taking pictures though, but I won't be posting them until the challenge is over. This is something that has just come as a surprise to me, recognizing how my hair is progressing by wearing my hair in a bun and keeping it moist. Anyhow, I just wanted to share with all of you ladies; keep it up, it does work and thank you to the person that reposted this older thread about the lady who achieved 8-9 inches in a year.

I'm glad this is working for you also. I noticed that wearing my hair in my own ponytail with the ends baggied. I am keeping all of the length that I get....my hair is never dry....my ends is baggied 24/7...and I know this is what's making my hair grow faster...so for now on, I am going to keep wearing my hair in a ponytail with the ends baggied until I reach my ultimate hair goal (midback)...I bought some pretty accessories to jazz up the ponytail so I'm all good...yah this bagging/bunning thing is the BOMB....

Also do you have the link to the older thread about the lady who achieved 8-9 inches in a year?

Im another bun lover...Ive retained a LOT of my growth over the years (I dont like to assume its ALL of it, but Im pretty close). Its my secret weapon to healthy hair and thick ends.

Are you bunning your ends under the baggy, or just leaving them hanging?

If you search for the thread by HoneyRockette its called "Look What I Found". The thread is pretty long but the woman I think her name is Yvette, explains in detail what she did. I'm also looking for hair accessories to jazz my bun up since I'm going to be wearing it like this til June.

Babygurl I just love your hair. I love your style in the far right picture with your bun on top. Absolutely beautiful.

Oh this is really working. I don't really bun. I put my hair in a loose ponytail tucked under and my hair is growing excellently.

you can do a side bun ( which I think are really cute) and add a flower or one of those pontail holders that comes with the flower. sistaslick has a nice chinese bun that she does. its in her album.
